    Re: Grid-tied or off-grid. Please consider ...

I did not say 20% increase.
Say your bill was R1k per month for the past 2 years, you would now be billed for R200 per month, even while you not consuming anything.
Perhaps you can see it as a...

    Re: Grid-tied or off-grid. Please consider ...

I would suggest you put your oven, geyser and airconditioners on Eskom power and run the rest of the house on your Axpert.
    Should be simple to do.

Just as a suggestion, I too had many fridges and...

    Yea, difficult question.

The equipment you have is really great, so no problem there.

Re: What pumps to go for with solar in mind

Depending on the size of borehole pump you have, you could just change to a single phase VSD.
Only thing you have to double check is the voltage on the motor, as the VSD will give you 230V 3ph and...

    Hi Guys,

I am now also thinking about selling the Penta and getting an older 2006 Xplorer.
Is it comfortable for 4 adults?
Any issues to look out for when buying?

Re: Solar System for Home ( yet another :)

Ok, here is a very simple diagram to explain the difference between Hybrid and Off-Grid or Bi-Directional inverters.

With a hybrid, you can still have your grid consumption at ZERO while still...

Re: Solar System for Home ( yet another :)

Oh sorry, looks like I stand corrected.

Not trying to bash either unit.
It does show me one thing that it is extremely difficult to compare Victron units.
So Easysolar and Multiplus II is the...

Re: Solar System for Home ( yet another :)

@jcdup , what you describing in points 1 to 3 can only be done with a proper Hybrid invertor.
To me the Goodwe G5048D-ES sounds like 100% what you need.

The only Victron product that comes close...

  12. Re: Step by Step guide for DIY hybrid inverter with gennie backup installation - plea

    Steps to Follow:

    1. Determine what your needs are.
    2. How much you willing to spend?
    3. Buy a power meter, like Efergy to monitor your consumption for a few months at least. That will guide you...
  13. Re: Step by Step guide for DIY hybrid inverter with gennie backup installation - plea

The sad part is there is no real "one size fits all" solution out there.

Just looking at those "off the shelf" Victron solutions, it does not look too bad. But then why do they go with multiple...

    Re: Voltage drain

    So far all sounds normal.
Fuel pump will try to maintain pressure in the system even if the ignition is off, same like an electric fan.

To be honest, 0.5Amp at 12V is really nothing! That is only...

  16. Re: Jurgens Magnificent 1978 - remote off-grid living

  19. Re: Step by Step guide for DIY hybrid inverter with gennie backup installation - plea

    Hi Jacques,

I have not read all the replies yet, but you have to make 100% sure your inverter will work with the generator.
Not all inverters and generators is made the same.

Running all night from batteries would be a killer, if you do not use Lithium.
