  1. Re: Groenkloof Definately NOT a 1-2 Gradient.

Goenkloof is not too bad, but I avoid water like the plague. I have never gone through that water hole and bypass the forest section just after it if it is too wet. Too wet means water coming...

    Re: Marlin Fishing

Markham Pollard is the guy I am on about at Mias, Woodmead. He spent two hours with my son, showing him how to make a couta trace on a sunday am. He has given us a lot of advice and our catch rate is...

    Re: Marlin Fishing

Actually on Saturday and Sunday they have an older guy that comes from Warnerdoon Ski Boat club, but is now staying in Sunninghill (I am talking about the Woodmead Branch).

    Cant recall his name...
  4. Re: Tiger fish at Jozini Lake / Pongolopoort dam

Awesome - did not fancy ending up in a mud fest there, but good to know I can drag the boat along.
  5. Re: Tiger fish at Jozini Lake / Pongolopoort dam

Whats it like getting a boat into the water with very low dam levels? We are planning on going in April and I would like to take my boat and do a day trip or two out to Sodwana.

    Wife has booked...

    Re: Marlin Fishing

Make sure you have a go-pro recording it for our viewing pleasure. I am sure you could get dragged out to the deep blue yonder but it would be epic.

    Re: Marlin Fishing

I spoke to one of the experienced guys at Mias and he said that you are wasting your time with marlin. The problem seems to be that they are so big, and so strong, that they will rip your normal gear...

    Re: VW Amarok mechanic Pretoria

Mine was squeaking and was driving me dilly - well more dilly than normal - so I needed to do it. You can decide if you think it is necessary.

    Re: VW Amarok mechanic Pretoria

I could do the above for you at home in two minutes. It is a very straight forward job, but I am a long way from a professional mechanic. Johnboy on the forum assisted me with a trick in replacing...

    Re: Towing down Sani Pass

Don’t forget someone drove up there with a Ford serreria many years back towing a standard caravan.

I think the main issues is that it is a cakewalk in good conditions, but snow, ice and rain can...

    Re: Towing down Sani Pass

Low range 1st gear I don't see why not?

If there is a lot of snow and ice, however, things may be more interesting. In that case I would not attempt it without some chains on the tow vehicle,...

    Sticky: Re: Towing Regulations

If you have coupled brakes and a eb license (old code 08) then you should be fine up to the tow rating of the tow vehicle.

As mentioned elsewhere, Toyota’s traditionally have very low tow ratings...

Re: Kosi Bay - any fish?

Some interesting comments on this thread. We have not been for a few years as we used to go there with our dam boat, and since we are now deep sea capable, we seem to either favour dbn or Sodwana. I...

Re: Kosi Bay - any fish?

    Wot he said!^

They trap the heck out of that place and the fish don't stand a chance, but don't worry because they are "traditional fisherman" and the rules don't apply to them. Such a pity as I...

Re: Amarok Cambelt Change at 29200 Km

Very sorry to hear that. Are they going to rebuild or replace? I am no guru, but I had some bad experiences with mine, (not as bad) but after some initial issues with VWSA, I am closing in on 300K km...

Re: Catch of the day- please post

Re: Catch of the day- please post

I see you look like you are Cape Town. Do you need a huge boat to go out there and do you have to go miles offshore?

What time of year is best? I have not been to ct for a while and have an ace...

Catch of the day- please post

Very nice - where was that? We tried a bit of jigging but the current is so fast off dbn that you end up drifting across the reefs in a few minutes.

    Re: Wet Fortuner

Not sure about your specific vehicle, however often this is caused by the aircon overflow pipe being blocked or not going out the vehicle. Perhaps give it a look?

    Re: Amarok gearbox overheating

Check in the stickies in the top of the VW section. You can probably find a member near you with a VCDS that could help you out. I would offer but I see I am a 2hr flight away.

Re: Older shape Fortuner - theft status?

I don't think this is the case at all. I am not sure there is any commonality between Taxis and Fortuners. The 3ltr D4D is by far the most common Fortuner and this engine was never in any taxis?

Re: Correct coupler for a certain weight

The coupler would need to match the GVM of the trailer/caravan/boat.

    I have an interesting scenario.

Boat trailer, and on the manufacturer plate, trailer is listed with Tare of 680kgs, with...

Sticky: Re: Tyres that work on the Amarok

Agree that is quite a large tyre size. I am running 265/70r17 and run 1.8-1.9 bar with a bit more when heavily loaded and drop down to 1.5 at durban beach and below 1.0 at Sodwana.
