  1. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

Heard a funny story the other day, not the punchline, but part of the story was that you had to own a Penn 49A, "en hy gooi 'n kraainess nog voor jy hom van die bakkie af gehaal het".
  2. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

Penn Slammer, Battle and Spinfisher grinders are very popular.

Their multipliers not so much. The Penn multipliers that you do occasionally see are the Squall and Fathom.
  3. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

Forgot about the Diawa BG, great all rounder. If you're after an unsealed real, you won't go wrong with a BG.
  4. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

Some guys just cable tie it to the rod.

The eyes on a multiplier rod are different than for a grinder though. The first few eyes for grinder are a lot bigger, and there are less of them. Also the...
  5. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

    You quoted me..

I wouldn't agree with this... some of the best anglers in the country use grinders.

There is a false impression though that multipliers are no longer used because of...
  6. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

Correct, multipliers have come a long way.

The Abu Garcia Blue Yonder as an example, is a very different beast to a Penn 500 Jigmaster.

Braking technology has improved dramatically. Magforce...
  7. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

    Exactly, even a multiplier..

What was anti-grinder about what I said?

The OP hasn't given us any information regarding what he intends to do (other than broadly fish), his SL and Grandwave 40s...
  8. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

No... but many of us still fish with multipliers.. I often fish some areas (spinning in the surf with my grinder) where there are fisherman who fish every day, almost all of them use multipliers....
  9. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

It is, but if you're going to a grinder in the salt there is little point in not changing to braid.

Grinders have become more popular in salt because the thinner braid can be fished on them,...
  10. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

I have a Daiwa BG Mag Sealed 4000 (R 3200). Great reel. The problem is when it comes time for service or repair, you have to send it to the distributor for repair if the Mag Sealing has to be...
  11. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

First off, why you changing to a grinder? Your Multipliers will out last grinders by decades and for far less money.

As far as grinders go, it depends on what you want to do...

    If you're...

I'm no scientist but I've been following this issue for a number of years.

You need to realize that the lake is (was) effectively a fresh water system that breaches when it gets full to the point...

    Re: St Lucia Mouth

    Cyclones can be pretty destructive.

Perhaps the dredge spoils would have prevented a breach though... who knows?

I sort of understand the potential reasoning behind the breach though, the...

    Re: St Lucia Mouth

Based on the article. It seems that the idea in principle wasn't necessarily a bad one, it was simply, in part, not properly implemented?

Having read through the thread again, it sounds as if you have bought a component system.

    4 x 6" speakers and 4 x tweeters?

    Try this...

The rear doors should be fine as long as there is a...

It makes perfect sense. The large speakers low down in the door in front only deal with base (sort of like a sub-woofer, for lack of a better term), they serve the same purpose as the tail door...

    Discovery 2: Re: Sound query

There could be a mismatch between the 3" door speaker and the tweeter. They run off one channel so it could be that the 3" is really loud while the tweeter is really soft at the same volume setting...

Something else I just thought of.

Do your new speakers have built in cross-overs?

With the original system, there is a cross over built in between the 3" mid and the tweeter in the front doors....
