    I would try clean/pick thread. Fit back and then a bracket across nut to hold in place, like a u-bolt used with exhausts.

    Controller can handle another panel, but not been necessary yet.

    From my experience Gel and AGM take some time to get to 100% full when drawn down to that level.

    Three cloudy days and AGM takes two full days of sun to get back 'up' again, whilst under load...

    On that distance 2.5mm sq will still be within limits, but 4mm sq is safer bet.

    I would use 2.5mm sq

    Plenty smart phone apps that calculate it
