    Re: Bird ID

    I'm leaning towards Yellow-bellied Greenbul.

The orange throat is from what is on the bird-feeder, not plumage. Look rather towards the plumage, pale yellow below and most importantly the white...

Re: Kgalagadi Trip Report - November 2019

Very interesting to see the contrast between November and end of December. There doesn’t seem to be a blade of grass for your trip, whilst it looked like the midlands in summer north of Bedinkt a...

    Re: North Natal camp site

Technically they should all be closed.

I’m not aware of any that are open, even under the radar, sorry.

Excellent, thanks John. Glad all was well medically and I can only reiterate your experience with KTP staff, they really are fantastic.

Re: Cape Vidal / Sodwana beach driving

Good luck, the resort will likely still be closed mid-August. No beach driving unless you are launching a boat and only along a designated stretch.

Beach driving in SA has been banned for the...

    Re: Drawer system in SUV

I’m not a fan of drawer systems, too bulky and are generally inefficient with regards to space lost.

I did however build myself a shelf, much like Estee’s example, for the back of my Cruiser...
  8. Re: Namibian Trip: Report 27th September – 31st October 2019

John, can I be cheeky and ask when we can expect part 2, 6 weeks in the Kgalagadi?

We have to live vicariously through your fantastic reports.

Re: Botswana Is The Best In Wildlife Conservation

Honestly Pete, that's a puff piece if I've ever read one. All they seem to concentrate on his how much land is turned over to wildlife in their national parks as a percentage of total country size....

Re: Ons nuwe ryhuis in wording.....

Elize, looks like an amazing project. I have a question please.

This truck looks much bigger than a normal bakkie with camper, the picture above next to the H100 confirms that. Most of your...

On the Toyota app it tells me in advance what my service is going to cost. Not sure if it can do it further into the future than the next service.

    Re: Ineos Grenadier revealed!!

    Steve,

The 3 litre BMW engines are straight 6's, both petrol and diesel. They are the same engines that you get in the 7, 5 , X7, X5 and even lower ranked vehicles. They do not make a V6.

    Re: Ineos Grenadier revealed!!

I'm so glad that Ineos are developing this vehicle and not you naysayers. Do you really believe that they are going to launch this car with engines that can't be sold in their 2 biggest markets?

Re: Kgalagadi to Mabua road prep.

    Which one, the cutline?

If so, straightforward. Was able to maintain 50-60km/h in January this year, not towing.

    Re: Is this it?

Can’t be, it’s 2.2 tons which is about the same as a D5. It maybe 500kg lighter than a D4. It’s also a good couple of hundred kg’s heavier than the old Defender.

Sticky: Re: Bird photo's for comment & crit

Nice sighting Mike. The light grey bill and legs of the immature bird look pretty normal to me although Roberts describes them as grey-green.

As to the behaviour of the youngster there’s a...

    Re: Is this it?

Saw one yesterday and was a little underwhelmed, it looks better in the pictures than in the flesh to me. Wasn’t able to have a look inside as it was on a raised stand.

Re: Do you need to book for CKGR?

I wouldn’t book, after 3 months on the road you’ll not be in the mood to be tied down by a booking. You’ll find a spot, guaranteed, it’s not the busiest reserve.

Re: Gonarezhou in either April or August 2021

Personally I would only consider August and not April, the rivers are likely to be too full to be able to cross and you will be limited in the areas you can see comfortably.
