    Re: Compression and Busbars

My 2 cents as I just last week had to remove 2 bulging cells.

Spot on. If the cells move ever so slightly the busbars are under strain and can cause internal damage, worst case, or the...
  2. Re: Balancing 2x Lithiumís in series

Now HERE is a very GOOD video from Will Prowse.

  3. Re: Balancing 2x Lithiumís in series

It derailed ... if the BMS's are designed to be connected to each other in parallel, perfect.
Otherwise it can become interesting, as was discussed on other threads.
  4. Re: Balancing 2x Lithiumís in series

We are talking about connecting cells in parallel with no BMS nor any source of power, to help balance the cells faster.
  5. Re: Balancing 2x Lithiumís in series

Ps. Swartkat, you know whom the source is/was ... the other was a engineer who posted same. No need for names. :)

Slight change in "tune". I was told in no uncertain terms and without any debate...
  6. Re: Balancing 2x Lithiumís in series

Oooo, you have now SO opened a can of worms, you dilettante you! ;D

What you just posted, I'm SO going back to those two guys who told me, with authority, that when I connected cells in parallel...
  7. Re: Balancing 2x Lithiumís in series

Can takes weeks to balance the cells.

Cells cannot balance themselves. Their has to be a current passing into them to do that.

    Re: Portable Lithium Box

    What Fluffy said.

Fixed installation, my bad, was meant to be at home as a off-grid setup, permanently set up, being a Phoenix.

Vehicles, Victron have schematic for vehicle installs.

    Page 1 of manual says:

    Re: Lithium vs Lead Acid

    12v 65ah ;D

Looks more like 4 x 12v 7ah batteries in there so it is 12v 28ah battery.

    Geez, what next!
  11. Re: Mecer Inverter - 8 Batteries - Real World Figures

Best source I found was asking a electrician who has bought the latest regulations manual. I think 2020 or 2021 version.
It is not on the web, parts are given as samples, must be purchased for all...
  12. Re: Mecer Inverter - 8 Batteries - Real World Figures

As per Fluffy, Axpert inverters, if used as a UPS, can be connected to a DB.
The moment you add panels to them they are not legal anymore in SA to be connected to a DB, assuming you did that.

    If...

    Re: Lithium vs Lead Acid

I agree, if your BMS balances at say 30mA, it WILL help.

But, here is the thing. Once the cells are balanced, you don't need that added complexity.

BMS + Active balancer = 2 x brake light bulbs...

They are <R3500, the ones I bought, landed in my hand via airfreight. In bulk even cheaper.

    Re: Lithium vs Lead Acid

An idea to consider is a AC charger and inverter all in one. For example:

    MultiPlus 12v/800VA/35A
    MultiPlus 12v/1200VA/50A

    Re: Lithium vs Lead Acid

Good point. You get bigger Victron chargers.

What I've learnt, actively doing, is to adjust the charge volts on the charger, you need quick and easy access for that. Victron has got that.

I had a think about this.
