    Re: 4x2 SUV’s - what’s their purpose?

    Actually, good!

I bought it off a Polokwane dealer - it was the Principal's personal vehicle - whom had given up the Volvo franchise. They were therefore told to get rid of the car. Also the brand...

    Re: 2x4 SUV’s - what’s their purpose?

    Here's another opinion :).

Your wheel/tyre size is absolutely fine offroad - exactly the same as a Discovery D3 and possibly some base model D4 - and would not be an issue at all. The type of tyre...

If I understand you correctly, actually, the other way round.

The drive train of most properly designed SUVs are designed that regardless of mode - if it has any - it always pulls off in 4-wheel...

    Yes, thanks Willie, very pleasant.

Here is where we went. It says Ride and Run on the gate and looks a lot like the Jannie Rykaart Protea offroad course of 20 years back.

    Roof bar curvature

Having recently advised someone to see if Whispbar does not have a cheaper alternative to Thule roof bars for his car, I mentioned a design feature of the Whispbar which impressed me.

    This was...
  12. Re: Which station wagons were available in SA in 1966?

My parents bought a Mk1 Cortina SW in 1964, and another in 1965. The Mkll Cortina 1300 De Luxe came out in 1968, so I guess also the new SW.
  13. Re: Which station wagons were available in SA in 1966?

Was that not the Holden Kingswood? From Australia, 3 speed auto, shifter on the column.

Re: After ten years in a shed. . .

Yes, exactly the above - GV5 Gun Tractor.
Then the G6 self- propelled 6-wheeler howitzer and now the T5, which is the G5 gun on a Tatra 8-wheeler chassis.

    But we're OT. Sorry :-).

I had no idea the 155 guns existed back then already.

The same Magirus Deutz gun tractors are still used, though.

Had exactly that with a panorama shot vertically. Had to remove it due to the above issue, and the post was decidedly poorer without it.

    Re: Suspension advice please

Same issue with the Volvo. The manucturer's recommended pressure is 2.7 bar all round. You can imagine what that feels like on 19" wheels with 55 profile tyres.

I now run them at 2.2 bar,...

    Re: Buying a Renault Duster.

Yes. A larger contact patch gives beter grip for the same reason.

So a 255 tyre has 8% or so more contact than a 235, so the rolling friction will increase by that.

This does not mean your fuel...
