    Re: camping sites open?

Sort of... I heard it is "by country" and only countries with very low case numbers, and 14 days mandatory quarantine...

If I were them, I'd most definitely not open up to South Africa/South...

Re: Companion - Tips, tricks and mods

So you’d want the holder to drop out of the way to deploy the bed, then... you could make a U-frame using aluminum square robe and connect-it fittings. Bolt up from the ammo box, wing nuts to hold...

    Re: When are campsites opening?

Would be quieter than Manyane at Pilanesberg on a Friday :). Having said that, I’d put up with the noise with pleasure to get out there again...
  8. Re: Overlanding In Southern Africa With A Large Bakkie (Pickup)

We’ve owned a few Chevy Tahoe’s (based on the 1500 pickup platform) - one of the most comfortable long distance vehicles on the planet. With the 5.8 (?) v8 does burn a lot of fuel (and fuel here is...

Re: Italian business man killed in Windhoek

Really sad to hear. Pre lockdown I was traveling from JNB to WDH regularly for work- landing there was always such a relief - feels so much safer than Johannesburg - and I am sure it is - bad things...

    Re: When are campsites opening?

So I'm relatively new here - I mean this as a genuine question - this plan... how is it to work? Destroy the SA economy and then what? Build Zimbabwe part II?

    Re: Dinokeng reserve open??

Sad and very irritating. We got out there for a very nice 3 day weekend at De Rust. In retrospect, even more glad that we took advantage when we did. I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be...

This particular minister seems far above average in the “waste of oxygen” category.

Re: Border X Extreme vs Conqueror Companion

I cannot help with the comparison on the Border X. I own a 2012 Companion, and can only say that it has treated us very well.

As an owner, I would offer the following pros and cons:

    - Cons:

Re: Portable 220V Lithium Power Pack

Yeah - that will make a big difference. I use a goal zero yeti 1,400 which I brought from the US. They make smaller units though. can recharge from 220 or solar. The flexopower power pack is...

Re: Portable 220V Lithium Power Pack

We run 2 Resmed Airsense 10s on a 1400 watt lithium unit with integrated inverter. One night uses 55-60% capacity (leaving humidity and tube heat at low settings). So extrapolating, I would think...

Re: Portable 220V Lithium Power Pack

At that price point, I’d bet a CPAP machine would kill the battery in 2-3 hours. Maybe 5 at most. Also be very careful
about using a modified sine wave inverter for medical equip.

    Flexopower has...

  22. Re: Backup power for sleep apnea and oxygen xonverter

I also found an after-market 12V power supply for our units (Resmed Airsense10) on Amazon.com. Was $32 vice well over $100 for the Resmed one. It is much smaller, literally a third the size, and...

    Re: Dinokeng reserve open??

  24. Re: Backup power for sleep apnea and oxygen xonverter

We use a Goal Zero lithium 1,400, which includes a 1,500 watt continuous/ 3,000 watt peak pure sinewave inverter.

Ive read that it can be very bad running medical equipment on modified sinewave...

Re: Hard Shell Roof Top Tents

The standard mattress is terrible. We used a friends for a number of weeks. He added a topper from TakeALot, makes a huge difference, but won’t fit inside - has to be carried in the vehicle.

Garmin GPSmap 66i, which includes satellite messaging capability via Iridium. It is then a dual purpose device and you can run route able T4A maps on it.

Re: Any new trails in Gauteng?

+1 for John Rock. Some are a bit more challenging - but all have bypasses. A good day out. Recommended. Did it with a D4 and a slightly lifted Pajero.

    Leaky gas fitting

I have a quick release LPG gas fitting that connects to the “SMEV” 2 burner stove in our conqueror companion. Slowly leaks. Where can one buy replacement fittings?
