Re: 2 week namibia trip - advice please

We did a similar trip last Dec and also did not know Nam. We used ultimateroutes.co.za for planning and booking.
It would have been a disaster without their help. Give them a go. Good rates.

Re: Inverter recommendations for camping usage?

Confirmed, Apple products require Pure Sinewave inverters. Even the junk advertised on Takealot and Geewiz advertise that their MSW inverters cannot run Apple products. Probably due to some hard...

Re: Inverter recommendations for camping usage?

I won't even consider an inverter with capacity over 500W in any vehicle. Just too dangerous and requiring outsized wiring and fusing to prevent a possible sad ending.
    As mentioned in previous...

Re: Minimum energy requirements for engel

    Hi Ben,
Short answer is no. You will need at least a 100Ah battery and 120W plus solar power with a matching solar controller. To cater for overcast days etc and no charging while driving, you will...

Re: Inverter cutting out powering fridge

Also try to 'refresh'/'desulphinate' the batteries individually with an intelligent charger. It may sort out your problem for a while. Otherwise it's no good flogging a dead horse.

    Re: Quick Question

Confirmed. Replace cig lighter plug with BH plug. Don't just cut off the lead. Check polarity first and mark the positive wire which comes from the center pin of the cig lighter plug.

    Re: Quick Question

Yes, BH plug is best. I don't like the Hella as the connection starts to deteriorate when subjected to vibrations over a long period.

I would take an Engel again any day. They just keep going. Only complaint is that it does not have a low voltage cut-out, but it can be overcome.

  22. Re: National Luna power pack - adding solar and inverter

    Re: Partly solar

Sizing of the solar array and inverter is done according to total expected demand at any given time.

Battery capacity is aligned with for how long you want standby power.

    That's the basics.
