Discovery 1 Re: Performance Mods Question

I come a long way with engiines and conversions

Think you need to read Clivemd's thread on his build first....
  2. Re: Remapped my D2 Td5 Auto - just to overcome the pull-away weakness

Thanks Koos for the call on Tuesday. Me and Koos had a very informative conversation about mapping, EGT"s, turbo boost and all that goodies going along with modified diesel engines.

    With Biltongs...

Mahindras are coming on strongly. Lots of companies using them on the mines lately. Only problem is dealer network and spare supplies. I know of one with a gearbox failure under Warranty at 50k km....

Re: Do you like the new Defender?

Cannot help to wonder what the resale value of the new Defender would be. Will it follow the Disco's with a massive lost of value in the first 5 years.?

Re: R350 000.00 What would you buy?

My Swambo uses a 76 v8 as a daily drive but then I stay on the platteland and town driving is no issue. I love the 76 and plan to drive it for many years to come. It is by no means a luxury 4x4 but...

Petri before they touch the carb make 100% sure the timing is set correct.

Just think of it every one is crying high tech but few can fix a low tech engine with a carb.;D

Big petrol engines rule.;D But do not underestimate the modern turbo diesels. Have seen some diesels that are potent dune machines.

Re: The do's and dont's of sand driving

It all depends on your gear ratios. I prefer low range as the transfer ratio multiplies torque and you have less stress on your clutch or torque convertor. I have seen my fair share of burnt clutches...

Re: SUV or Double cab with canopy?

The V6 Amarok can do 3500kg about the limit of most SUV`s. I think many on the forum think I hate German products. Fact is I have owned my share of German vehicles. There are some that I have doubt`s...

Re: Prado 120 rear locker options

If the ratios are the same you can just swap out the center portion with any of the Hiluxes and FJ with rear lockers. They all have the Toyota 8 inch diff.

Re: R350 000.00 What would you buy?

Nothing wrong with the Amarok. I just will not buy secondhand without a motor plan and warranty. Two of my friends had to replace heads on 2.0l Amaroks at around 200k km. Only a cool R100k jobbie.

  17. Re: Remapped my D2 Td5 Auto - just to overcome the pull-away weakness

Biltong die verskil tussen jou en `n tuner is jy verstaan enjin dinamika. Jy vind berekende oplossings deur konstant na AFR te kyk.
AFR pla nie die tuner nie. Hy krap vir kilowatte en overfuel...
  18. Re: Timing on later VW Engines - can you skip a tootch?

I am by no means a VW expert. Have done the cam belt on Swambo`s 2.0l VW bus. Does the 1.9TDI not have a mechanical diesel pump. Did you also lock the pump. If a mechanical diesel pump your diesel...

Re: R350 000.00 What would you buy?

I will not buy any VW product secondhand without motor plan or Warranty. Repair costs can quickly ruin a sale that were intended to be a bargain. I know I were about to spend R50k on my Swambo`s...
  23. Re: Timing on later VW Engines - can you skip a tootch?

  24. Re: My FJ 60 (2F) - Servicing, Mods, Tuning, and Repairs

Sounds like a Holley carb. The have a warning in the box telling the petrol smell is a trade mark. I love it.;D
  25. Re: My FJ 60 (2F) - Servicing, Mods, Tuning, and Repairs

I wondered how he adjusted the carb more lean without changing jets. You can only adjust the idle mixture.

I think the timing is off combined by and airscrew that is not set right.
