Re: Self driving in November, where?

Can relate, didn’t experience such mud yet. Drove in and made a 90 degree turn right away. After some struggles got out quickly tho.

Most companies I know who rent out vehicles offer drivers for 30/40$ per day.

Yes, I think I have to braai right on the firepit. No problem if I can find a braai grid at The Hub.

And yes, we’re still renting from 4x4-Kenya. My fellow countrymen are too expensive imo. Will...

Yeah, the bread won't be anywhere like our Dutch bread. Love the dry African supermarket bread, always a few bags with fungus haha. But we're resourceful ;)
Unfortunately I don't master the art of...

Thanks Katrin, great tips! Looks like you had another unforgettable trip! Hope we get half as lucky. (=

  8. Re: Kenya - Selfdrive trip - October '21

Thanks a lot KaliCa. All this information is very useful. However I think we still opt for staying the first week or so in the Triangle instead of the reserve side. We love bush camping, so a spade...
  9. Re: Kenya - Selfdrive trip - October '21

    Kimana looks fantastic, thanks!
Would you recommend any camping or day trip?
I found the following “You can pay by mpesa only at the gate”, is it hard to get Mpesa as tourist?
  10. Re: Kenya - Selfdrive trip - October '21

Yea, I don’t think I ever get bored in the bush. But some suggested 3-4 days is enough. And it’s probably enough to see all the highlights. But photographic opportunities everywhere! Haha
  11. Re: Kenya - Selfdrive trip - October '21

My idea is to bring plenty of meat with me to Semadep and store it in the fridge there. Veggies should be available at a local town. Otherwise I would waste a full day with Narok shopping. But time...

    Hi all,

  13. Re: Kenya - Selfdrive trip - October '21

Thanks all! Am looking for Dirisha now. Great help once again.

At the end of my trip I will be in Amboseli. The last 3 nights I will stay at Kibo Safari Lodge. They have a private wing now which...

    Hi all,

I’m currently checking which private campsite I should book.

Kiboko was my #1 pick but is fully booked.

    Thanks!

  17. Re: Sandriver Campsite in Masai Mara Reserve

Would love to see some cheetahs! Only saw 2 heads above the high grass of two snoozing leopards in CKGR, Botswana.

  18. Re: Sandriver Campsite in Masai Mara Reserve

I did some research, the Fast Five or Tano Bora are now the Fast Four. The biggest of the five lost the fight with others and got ranked as fifth. He then left the coalition and partnered up with...
  19. Re: Sandriver Campsite in Masai Mara Reserve

It’s a coalition of 5 cheetah males who live and hunt together. But not sure if they are still together.
  20. Re: Sandriver Campsite in Masai Mara Reserve

    Probably bribes.. :(
Any tips for campsites around the reserve?
Would love to see the Fast Five (if they are still around)
  21. Re: Sandriver Campsite in Masai Mara Reserve

I was wondering if there are any updates on this campsite? Has someone been there lately? Or any good alternatives? The plan is to spend majority of the time in the Triangle but I also like to...

    Hi Ron,

Good to see you here as well!
Hope all is good down South? Any trips planned?

In Uganda we also took 3-4 days per park, but since the Mara is probably the main event I thought about...

  26. 6 'Tree Climbing lions' killed and dismembered.

A sad day for Uganda, conservation and the world. Luckily there are still males and females remaining. But it's a huge blow for the lions of QENP.
