Discovery 2: Re: Disco 2 Kalahari - what do you guys think?

Discovery 2: Re: Disco 2 Kalahari - what do you guys think?

I am not really in a donating mood, but quite seriously open to swops and sales at the moment. If you are not just pulling my leg and you have a plan, let's talk. I'm in gauteng for a bit and could...

Discovery 2: Re: Disco 2 Kalahari - what do you guys think?

When it comes to the engine especially, everything is freely available and very well priced. Td5 not so much when it comes to injectors. Another (questionably) good thing about the Tdi is the ease...

Discovery 2: Re: Disco 2 Kalahari - what do you guys think?

Can't really argue with that! In my opinion a decent Td5 is a very good mix between a city and weekend/holiday car, especially in ES spec.

Re: Another Landy in the family

Congratulations! A special first car indeed, and hopefully the beginning of a lifelong love of Landies.

Discovery 2: Disco 2 Kalahari - what do you guys think?

This concept has been on my mind for a while. What do you guys think? A Disco 2 Kalahari :-) 300 Tdi.

The Disco 2 is not as highly computerised as a D3 so it should be easier to get the systems...
  7. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

Before I get carried away with this one... is there anyone else who wants to offer something here? I can think of a few things that might make reasonable trades:
    - some sort of Series 3 that's...

  10. Re: Tyres, Mags and Rims: Trade, Buying, Selling, Swap, Give-away or whatever ....

For sale: a set of Conti World Contact 205R16C. Two with about 100% tread, other two have about 75%. I posted on the Land Rover sub forum with more photos since I forgot about this thread now. R2500...
  11. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

JohnnoK has opened up a whole avenue now. If anyone has something else you would want to swop for my project as specified above, bring it on.

Something running. A Landy would be nice. Especially...
  12. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

So you bought it from Benson? Looked at the thread and it seems like something I could deal with...

You're at the other end of the country to me, but if you're willing to bring it up and take all...
  13. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

    Is it running?

I'm quite serious unfortunately - I am still a serious Landy fan!
  14. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

It looks like Fugard will be up for sale, as is. His block is stripped and ready to go to the engineers. But I'm going to be relocating at the end of the year and will need to wrap things up.

Defender Re: 300 tdi oil pressure

Good to know about the "small hole" in the cam bearings. Presumably, that's also why you get almost zero oil pressure at startup (idle) when these bearings become dislocated and push out of the block.

    Plastigauge

Do you guys know of any local stockists of Plastigauge? Or perhaps there's someone around here who is willing to sell some pieces or swap for something Disco 1 that I still have.

    One can buy it...

Discovery 1 Re: My 1998 300Tdi Auto Rebuild and Upgrade

On the auto Tdi, you remove a cover plate in the bottom of the adapter plate that joins engine to gearbox bellhousing. It is seen under the vehicle, looking from the front of the vehicle, and in line...

Importing a used vehicle into Mozambique

There's some info out there, but I would value some contribution from members of this forum - a lot of people have good advice around here.

Re: 300 Tdi electric vacuum pump retrofit

Yes, if you fit a mechanical pressure switch. The Audi system mentioned here uses a closed-loop setup with a pressure sensor which gives an output voltage which is a function of the pressure. The...
  23. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

Thanks very much. I like to buy good stuff but don't want to go overboard since I don't regularly take this sort of measurement. Last time I just got a local engineering guy to come along with his...

Re: 300 Tdi electric vacuum pump retrofit

Reviving my old thread as I begin thinking about how to do my electric vacuum pump mod.

I've attached an Audi/VW document I found on the internet, explaining a bit of how their system works.

  25. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

  26. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

After thinking more about this, reading some other threads here and on the Internet, I've decided it's going to move under the car, at the back, by the sedimenter. Mounted at a 45 degree angle as in...

A great idea! I will be supporting you once I have a bit of spare cash!

  28. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

A while back, I fitted a Facet pump in place of the fuel lift pump. Originally this was done just to help identify a potential air leak in a diesel line which was causing the car to battle to start. ...
  29. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

Today I did some cleaning up of parts. Rear timing cover, adapter plate and sump with oil pickup.

Oil pump gears are a bit pitted. They will be replaced, together with relief spring and plunger....
  30. Re: Tyres, Mags and Rims: Trade, Buying, Selling, Swap, Give-away or whatever ....

  31. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

Need to check properly. I did a very rough estimate at 70 kg.

Another thing, is that I would probably get a much cheaper rate from Polokwane, so if I do go that way I can always box it up and...

Re: 300 Tdi oil cooler - necessity of?

That's interesting. Anyway, you are lucky enough to not have the plastic tanks. I wonder if you can recon, or if you'll need to replace?
  33. Discovery 1 Re: The resurrection and further adventures of Fugard

They quote a touch over R1k from Tzaneen to Jhb. If I can't get through at the end of September, I'll strongly consider it. Thanks for the lead.

Re: 300 Tdi oil cooler - necessity of?

You sure it's aluminium then? The brass tanks are the old ones with the copper cores as far as I know? The new ones have aluminium cores with plastic tanks.
