Re: Would you help someone in distress? My story….

Good idea, but actual satphone may be better.

I spent R10k on a satphone, ok, is a lot, but Sat4Rent (on the forum) have airtime deals that are quite attractive, certainly less than R200 per...

Re: Self-drive Botswana special from BWP450

    Sounds interesting !!!

BTW, I have heard a few third-hand rumours about 4 hour delays going through to Botswana because of coronavirus checks. Supposedly on the SA side.

    Sounds a bit...

Re: Alternative Rims for Freelander 2

I have a set of 17" FL2 rims that I may sell at some point, but I have good AT tyres on there that I am using at the moment.

So not yet. Later I will put the 18" rims back.

Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

ie it can't automatically supply 220v when the mains go down ?

So pure inverter functions, manually switch on and separate battery charger ?

    Discovery 4 Re: Discovery 4

I have had Discoveries now for 25 years, no major repairs.

Current D4 SDV6 has been reliable, and has been all over Namibia, Zambia and Botswana. Often towing a Bushlapa.

    I have some back...

Don't know about Pretoria, in Joburg it is at Langlaagte.

At Langlaagte you have to be there early, they close at 11:00.

And yes, it is essential, went through in November.

    They demanded a...

    That ^

My setup is like that, works great.

I also have a little black box that cuts the power at 12.2 volts, so that I can't run down the car battery.

Re: Car jammer at the office. Is there any hope?

Some of the keyless entry systems unlock if you just get close to the car, and lock when you leave. No button presses.

These are very problematical if jammed, they only way to avoid that is if...

Re: Car jammer at the office. Is there any hope?

Yeah, that system where it automatically unlocks when you get close is a PITA, it is not suitable for South Africa. Once had that on a rental Renault in the UK.

In this case you have to make sure...

Yes, the body on the Master Lock appears to be made from fairly soft metal, one would need something where the body is more robust.

I need something with a stronger body than the "Master Lock" that the Trailer Cuff comes with.

Namibia is easy, they don't RICA, but in Botswana you have to find a sim seller that can RICA the card.

    Re: Hluleka Nature Reserve attacked

IMO that is purely because the victims didn't die quickly and quietly enough, surely that was the objective.

Then they could have ransacked the cabin in peace and quiet.

    Re: Snowmaster cut out voltage

You shouldn't set the fridge cut-off to lower than 11.5v, it will damage your battery, even 11.5 is too low.

A normal Lead-Acid battery is at 50% discharge at 12v, and should not really go lower...
