    Good plan to check water level when cold, perhaps again before you start in the morning. Also check for water puddles under car, will indicate perished radiator hose/hole in radiator.

    I am by no means a mechanic, IMHO that sounds like a compression problem, maybe oil on top of one of the pistons, I would have a compression test done, who many km's on your Colt?
