    Re: Situasie in Brits

Just a heads up. The area appears to be flaming up a little again.

Yesterday the Brits Rosslyn road was blocked at the Eland mine.

Today, rocks are being thrown at vehicles in the Lethlabile...

Re: Looking for a compact camping chair

I use the Front Runner ones, but weight is not an issue. Super sturdy. Super comfy (for me at least), and fold up smaal and square.

Re: Pumping up those difficult to reach tyres

Probably any spares shop or 4x4 accessory shop.

Just checked 4x4 direct as well. I see they have a steel handled reamer for R60 (https://4x4direct.co.za/tyre-care/6902-tubeless-tyre-reamer.html)...

Re: Pumping up those difficult to reach tyres

Some tyre repair kits have plastic handles. You can think of what happens to the shaft of the tool if the handle breaks whilst you're applying a large amount of force. I prefer paying a little more...

Re: Pumping up those difficult to reach tyres

Off topic, but is that part of a tyre repair kit in your first photo ? Not to be pedantic, but if it's one of those with the plastic handles (it seems to be?), I'd suggest replacing it. They're your...

  11. Re: Best route from Pretoria East to Hartebeespoort dam?

There are Roadworks on the single lane stretch on the N4 between Rosslyn and Brits. It's fairly chaotic, as the emergency lane is currently closed / smaller than normal due to the construction...

Re: Auto vs manual in off road conditions...

I have. On our aborted trip to Bots (in the manual 4.5), the started failed dismally. Originally, we were unsure as to whether it was some other electrical issue. Upon getting the vehicle back to ZA...

Re: Auto vs manual in off road conditions...

I travel with jumpers in the manual too.

Jumpers mean nothing where there is absolutely no way to get the vehicle started in the middle of the bundus - unless you travel with a spare starter, or...

Re: Auto vs manual in off road conditions...

I am lucky. I've got an Auto 4.8 Patrol, and a manual 4.5 Patrol. The auto is fantastic, but I think it depends very much on the use case.

When touring, I prefer my manual - there is much less to...

  21. Re: Road condition - R501 between Fochville and Potch?

  22. Re: Road condition - R501 between Fochville and Potch?

Cannot comment on your original choice as I've not driven that stretch of road for years.

I would, however, recommend taking the N14. About 20km from Ventersdorp, you will go past Klerkskraal dam...
