    Re: 76 V8 Cruiser

    I agree.
Put it in 5th and go.
4th for long uphills just to keep the egt's down.
But even that is probably no real problem. (I don't have a gauge)

    Re: 76 V8 Cruiser

I get about 8.5km/l around town.
265/75R16 fitted, bull bar, standard suspension.
But doing 100km/h on cruise control, it goes to 7.5km/l.
    Towing a heavy load, I get 5-6km/l.

  4. Re: Hardshell RTT & Gas bottle?? Where to store it?

I fitted a ladder to the rear door, purely to have a hard fixing point for the Front runner gas cylinder mount.
    Works perfectly for me.
This might not be an option for the Discovery, as the rear...

    Re: Dual sport tyres

I've used both the Anakee II and the E07.
The Anakee is good on tar and ok on dirt.
The E07 is ok on tar, good on dirt.
    Both gets good mileage.
If you tend towards dirt, the E07 is the way to go....

Re: Solar Panel Registration in Cape Town

I'm still not clear on what the definition of a "very small" system is.
Is it a calculator solar screen?
Is it a 100W panel, used to trickle charge a deep cycle battery?
    Where is the dividing...

Re: Landcruiser 70 series v8 fuel consumption

    Understood.
The 17" will probably handle slightly better.
But the 16" has a bigger side profile that will handle hard knocks better.
And flex better over rough terrain.
But I see that most modern...

Re: Diver "LOST" of Mozambique coast

I am honestly surprised that more divers aren't lost.
You get separated from the group in an instant.
And then you immediately have a dangerous situation.

I think these things normally happen...

Re: Fortuner diff lock and turbo issues

Just try not to pull the motor out of its housing.
To get it back in again is a bit of an art, because of the brushes jumping out.
Also, Make sure that you note the disk rotational position you...
  14. Re: My Land Cruiser 76 - 20000k km Feedback

I am sure that I have recently paid around R450 for the fuel filter.

I hate it when they replace the aircon filter.

Re: Fortuner diff lock and turbo issues

The difflock actuator can also have weak main feed connections.
If you open up the motor (read up on it!!), the thicker wires coming into the contacts can make a bad connection.
    Simply squeeze the...
  16. Re: My Land Cruiser 76 - 20000k km Feedback

My 2013 model's rear pads wears at the same rate as the front.

I am thinking of adding some hanging rubber screens to protect the rear disks and rear...
  17. Re: 70 Series Track difference - Who is it a problem

I fitted spacers to mine from day one as well.
But a colleague of mine, well traveled on the desert trips, have told me of a 76 V8 that would simply not stay stable on one of the trips.
    The driver...

Re: BFG MT tyre failure !

I guess it is completely possible that there may be something wrong with the tyre.
But I cannot see a reason why over heating due to too low tyre pressures won't affect a new tyre.
    The fact that it...

Re: My Land Cruiser 76 Impressions

    I agree.
Though touching the paraffin subject, we inevitably circle back to two stroke oil. >:D

Re: My Land Cruiser 76 Impressions

I have a very strong suspicion that the 50ppm issue with the V8 70 series vehicles has more to do with the Euro 4 rating than anything else.
They are probably not allowed to rate it as Euro 4 if...

Discovery 3 Re: Have I stuffed my drivetrain

My thought would be that the transfer case unlocked the moment the speed increased to above 50?kph along with activation of reduced ride height.
So it simply went into "road mode"...
    Plausible?

So, does anyone have any data available on the difference this conversion makes regarding fuel consumption?
Also, how does it influence the average EGT's?
  24. Re: What would you fit onto a LC76V8 first?

    Geen probleem.

Ek het 265/75R16 op. (Standaard 265/70R16)
Ek voel dis 'n goeie middeweg.
Die 285's sal wel help met die korterige 5de rat, maar dit maak ook al die ander ratte langer.
    So selfs...
  25. Re: What would you fit onto a LC76V8 first?

    Well said!
To add, remember that weight puts more strain on your tires.
That rear mounted steel bumper with dual tire mounts might actually be contributing to tire failure in the first place.

  26. Re: What would you fit onto a LC76V8 first?

I have done the following thus far:

    1) Rear wheel spacers: Recommended, stability in sand
    2) Front Runner Roof bars: Recommended, Additional space is handy
    3) Packing rack in the back:...

Re: Land Cruiser 200 turbo seized

    Slightly O/T:
My 76 V8 have only been serviced by the agents, so OEM oil.
It doesn't use any (or hardly any) oil between services. (+-105000km)
Did the 15W40 reduce your oil usage?

    I have the Bestech fitted.
I did my homework, and couldn't find any other options.
It is expensive, but works perfectly.
And with the V8, it is indeed a very good cruiser.... ;D
