Re: One Ten V8 Starting Problem

Maybe it is the battery after all? Battery on its way out, heats up while driving and then first have to cool down to produce enough power to start.

Or some other electrical connection heating up...

Did you win with the key fob, Quint?
  3. Re: FreeLander2 rear diff whining - advice please

PTFE made the whine quiet down a bit in when J chucked it years ago in my Defender. It didn't go away altogether.
  4. Re: Which editing software package would you recommend.

Premiere is not that difficult to learn. Plenty of tutorials on the web.
  5. Re: Defender Light Circuit - where to start looking for Earth Fault

There is a reason they were melted. Possibly you have a intermittent short somewhere. Best to try and find it or it will keep giving you problems.

    Re: Defender 2.8 BMW.

Don't drop the tank. Cut an inspection hole in the load bin - the Defender 2.8i sticky has a post with the measurements.

Tanking the pump out is relatively easy that way.
  7. Re: Defender Light Circuit - where to start looking for Earth Fault

    I recommend the following method:
    1) Take all the fuses out (first take a pic of the fuses so that you can put them back)
    2) Take all the globes out
    3) Make a 4m long lead with crocodile clips on...
  8. Re: Defender Light Circuit - where to start looking for Earth Fault

My Landy is a good example of this. Two years ago I fixed up most of the wiring - found around 50 shorts and potential shorts. Most of them were due to a cowboy sparky.

    A month ago I started...

  12. Defender V8 carb - possible engine rebuild

Defender Re: Itís my Defender 90 2.8 thread

The replacement set that I had installed was the same length and it solved the problem.

Not such a big job but it can be tricky to get the springs out.

You either need to create a cross-axle...

Defender Re: Itís my Defender 90 2.8 thread

    Yes, mine was the same.

The left spring was compressed by around that amount.

I suspect the combination of the extra petrol tank with the surface profile of tar roads loads the left spring.

    Defender spare wheel carrier

Anybody knows who supplies spare wheel carriers for Defenders in the Pretoria region?

I am looking for the type that mounts on the side, on the vehicle body.

    Somebody cheaper than the R4600...

    Re: Pre-98 Defender LED conversion

Ok, I have found out that the problem lies with the instrument console bulb, the power bleeds through.

Removing the bulb makes the actors work correctly.

Apparently the fix is an LED bulb, only...

    Pre-98 Defender LED conversion

Has anybody attempted to install the Wipac LED kit in a pre-98 Defender? The problem is that the indicators on the older Defenders are different from the newer ones.

    The newer Defenders have a...

Defender Re: What have you done with your Defender today?

I also found conflicting info. I started furthest moving closer.

Vehicle failed roadworthy on brakes and after I did this it passed.

Defender Re: What have you done with your Defender today?

I only recently found out that brake fluid is kapot after two years of service. Don't just bleed, flush the brake lines. Four bottles of brake fluid should be enough.

The little shop at Brookwood Estate is actually well stocked and prices are decent.

I didn't pay further attention to it, bigger fish to fry. Sadly the heads will have to come off in the near future.

Defender Re: Itís my Defender 90 2.8 thread

Bicycle brake cable ( heavy duty) will do the job at a fraction of the cost. Electrical connector (chocolate block) at the throttle body side as a clamp to secure.

Re: Defender V8 - possible diff issue?

Yes, that is correct. Both wheels off the ground. Rotating the one makes the other one rotate in the opposite direction but this doesn't work when I rotate the other tyre.

Defender V8 - possible diff issue?

My understanding is that if both wheels are jacked up and you rotate a tyre, the other one should rotate in the opposite direction. But what if only one of the tyres does this? Is it normal or does...
