Re: Golf 5 1.9tdi hard starting

Yes 652 is the correct size. On the website i found the varta is sold as a 652 but only difference is the higher CCA rating.

    Thanks you!

Re: Golf 5 1.9tdi hard starting

So did the jump test yesterday, definitely started better. So I'm on the hunt for a new battery.
How important is the CCA rating on the battery, I think this is where my issue lies. I read that the...

    Golf 5 1.9tdi hard starting

    Hi all.
    Some advice please.

I own a golf 5 1.9tdi with 220k on the clock. Recently it developed a "hard start".
To best describe it: when starting, the engine needs to turn an additional cycle...

Re: keeping the lights on economically.

So the tenants prepaid are downstream from your meter.
Either you install separate systems AFTER each prepaid....will be expensive.

Re: keeping the lights on economically.

    You are right.
    Maybe a better explanation:
Grid tie means the inverter uses the solar panels first and then if the panels do not produce enough it supplements with Eskom. If the panels produce too...

Re: keeping the lights on economically.

Yes the goodwe has mode settings to run as a grid-tie or a hybrid. So yes you can run it with only panels, but basic principles still apply, if Eskom is off the circuits not connected on the backup...

Re: keeping the lights on economically.

You're looking at a grid-tie system. These systems operate without batteries but when Eskom is off the panels will be off. These systems need to "see" Eskom as a reference. In South Africa grid...

    Re: More Batteries needed

    Makes sense, thank you.

Yes you can add batteries as longs as you add a series connected bank and...

    Sticky: Re: Electrickery for camping

    Correct

Then a "better" setup on the victron 75/15 will be 2x 100W 72cell panels in parallel. You increase the voltage so you should get longer hours of charging.

    Re: More Batteries needed

On lead acid or AGM or gel battery bank it is not advisable to add cells at a later stage. You will drag the new cells down to the old ones. It's almost the same as when you put a new battery with a...

    Re: More Batteries needed

How old is the battery bank?
It's not ideal to add new batteries to a old bank, you will bring capacity of the new batteries down.
    I'll send you a pm.

    Sticky: Re: Electrickery for camping

I read in the 75/15 manual they recommend 2x 12v (36cell) panels in series or 1x 24V(72cell) panel.
The higher voltage makes the regulator more efficient in the sense that it will provide charge for...

    Re: Panel calculation

The mecer is a off grid inverter, meaning it can't use power from the panels and grid at the same time. It can however use the panels and batteries at the same time but if the load is more than what...

Re: Pv solar vs solar heating

I agree, running a heat pump from a grid-tied system is a great idea and you will save a lot of money.

Re: Pv solar vs solar heating

Solar PV generates electricity and is then used through a grid interactive inverter.

For solar water heating you get vacuum tubes and flat plates.
You also get heat pumps, these use electricity...
