Re: Non landrover replacement engines in Td5

I dropped into a site by accident a while ago and the opinion there was that the engines are all the same, structurally, with turbos added to spec.
I don't know how true it is, though.

Paging Mr Gary Frank, Mr Frank, please pick up the white courtesy phone....
  3. Re: Any panel beaters out there who can help with a Pantone colour equivalent?

Ah, OK, then you may need to get the colour spectrally analysed to get the RGB or CYMK ratios to be able to match to the corresponding Pantone number.
  4. Re: 1953 Colchester Student Mk1 6" gap bed - A restoration project

What about having it waterjet or laser cut?
Waterjet will give you down to 0.001" tolerance if the machine is capable and well set up.
  5. Re: 1953 Colchester Student Mk1 6" gap bed - A restoration project

Roger the Bodger probably read about a property of some greases called Thixotropy and bunged some random, unsuitable grease in it.
  6. Re: Any panel beaters out there who can help with a Pantone colour equivalent?

You will likely not get a direct Pantone match for your vehicle.
The vehicle manufacturers use different coding for their colours, and it should be on the data plate in the door pillar or under the...

    Re: TD5 blowby?

I didn't explain myself well, Paul. Blowby is exactly as you describe it, but the OP's question is about cooling system pressurising.

chill, pops, we're on the same page.

    Re: TD5 blowby?

I think I have been at cross purposes in this thread, jelo.
I read blowby as pressurisation of the crankcase, but it is actually pressurising the cooling system, which points to the head gasket as...
  10. Re: Annealing copper washers , lessons not learned.

As far as I recall, copper will age harden, but I'd be guessing as to what rate it takes.

Aluminium is a diffcult one, there are many grades and they each require specific treatment methods,...
  11. Re: Annealing copper washers , lessons not learned.

Not necessarily, when I fitted my new Td5 head, I annealed the new copper seals I bought for the injectors, just to be sure they would deform and create a good conforming seal, but if they come off...
  12. Re: Annealing copper washers , lessons not learned.

For copper, red hot and water quench is the way to go.

    Re: TD5 blowby?

I can't think of a scenario where cylinder head failure would cause blowby in a Td5, head GASKET failure, possibly, but not the head.

I'd get a second opinion, as suggested.

Look at Rexroth extrusions for your build, they are pretty strong.

    Re: Licensing advice.

Correct, you can keep it off the road until it turns to red dust, but you WILL pay the annual fee.
All the RWC means is it grants you the issue of the disc which allows you to use it on the roads.
