Discovery 3 Re: What vehicle after a Landrover

For me it would be a D4, D5 or the new Defender.

I wont get the same ride or capability in anything else.

I have personal issues that require this.

    Re: Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10

    I had a set.

Lost one driving gravel roads, and a few months later 2 within 1km 4x4ing. All sidewalls.

Will not use them again, switched to MT's

    Re: Would you?

    Yes

That's what my D3 was built for. We have been totally off the beaten path in the past with no issues.

The question you should ask is "would you be able to drive your 4x4 there"

Re: Tarp vs Gazebo- advice appreciated

In a storm your tarp will become wither a pool or a kite.
Gazebo's tend to do the same. I have lost 2.

I now have a Colman event shelter, it is domed and has steel poles, so far all is good.

Re: 4x4 race. What's with all the black smoke?

    Very bad remap or chip.

Bad over fueling, or the turbo's are not spooling up fast enough.

Look at some of the videos from the states, they tend to blow engines due to this. More fuel does not...

Re: Why do you drive a Land Rover?

Started driving and fixing Series I, II and III from when I was a kid.

My brother and friends dad's had a few.

Got my Series IIa around 25 years ago, and fitted a custom petrol V6 in it and...

Re: Ridiculous maintenance cost of Freelander II

Let me put it this way....

My Golf 3 cost me over R35 000 this year My D3 around 10 000 with shocks

When we had the Hilux, the D3 services were around 3 000 cheaper per year

    I am currently...

    Re: 2013 D4D Engine Bang

    Hi Grips

Piston material may have been a contributor i.e. the final nail, but does not explain the smoke on acceleration.

I still think there is a leak somewhere after the inter cooler.

Discovery 4 Re: What to do ?

    I don't think so.

My injectors and turbo lasted for over 200k km
I only replaced my injectors because 3 were out of spec and the turbo because of turbo noise, it tested fine but was irritating.

    Re: 2013 D4D Engine Bang

Smoke under acceleration and a burnt piston, means over fueling. If your injectors tested fine, you must also check your turbo hoses for leaks after the turbo.

Re: Landrover Freelander 1 engin replacement

    Rebuilt injectors should last years.

I rebuilt 2 of mine, stripped and cleaned them in an ultrasonic cleaner, lubricated the moving parts and reassembled them.

They lasted another 100K km odd....

  25. RangeRover Re: Disco 4 - Is it worth the headache to look at buying one

Ok. So force was the wrong word.

If you are parked on a level surface, yes the car adjusts down, other wise it thinks you are off road.

The below happens automatically in off road driving,...
  26. RangeRover Re: Disco 4 - Is it worth the headache to look at buying one

The active suspension is just that, active.

If I remember correctly, the BCU (body control unit) checks for ride height changes as well as air bag pressures (force from the car on the wheel) every...

My D3 has been remapped, the D4 not. Doubt we will ever do it.
