  1. Re: Giriyondo vs Lebombo Border Crossings

Using Giriyondo as a transit route is really not worth it in my opinion. Besides the compulsory overnight stay and the costs thereof in Kruger, the entrance fees on the Mozambican side just to drive...

    Re: Lesotho December 2019 Trip

From Lotheni I went up Sani and slept at St James Mission. Then to Sehlabathebe using the new road. From Sehlabathebe I went over Matabeng Pass and slept at Roma.

    Re: Camping Safety Paranoia

Thanks Estee. Indeed, I feel privileged every day to be doing what I'm doing and that was the intention of my post - we actually live in an awesome country and we shouldn't let the doom and gloom...

    Re: Camping Safety Paranoia

I don't want to derail the topic of this thread, but I drive a 2016 Ranger fitted with a Rhinocab canopy. On top of the canopy are two solar panels powering a battery pack for the fridge and lights....

    Re: Camping Safety Paranoia

Estee, this should give you an idea of the areas I've been to. I'd need some time to draw up a list to publish here as the info is all from my GPS on Basecamp.

    Re: Camping Safety Paranoia

As much as having kids and other loved ones with you and taking to the public roads with possible drunk drivers crashing into you or coming home and risking a hi-jacking at your gate, or being shot...

    Re: Camping Safety Paranoia

I normally sit on my hands when I see these doomsday end-of-the-world-as-we-knew-it type of threads but let me share my experience on this one. For the past 16 months I've been camping around the...

    Re: Lesotho December 2019 Trip

Bob Phillips is not much more than an open space under a tree. I'd rather leave Sehlabathebe early and go to Katse. January this year I drove 5 hours from Sehlabathebe to Thaba-Teska with many photo...
  9. Re: KZN South Coast to Semonkong advice please

I can't comment on the South African side but the road from Qacha's Nek all the way to Maseru is good tar. By all accounts Qacha's Nek is generally an easy border to cross. Semongkong Lodge offers...

Re: Beach near Maputo for day trip?

I'd much rather go to Macaneta than to Ponta for a day trip, especially in December. Another option is a bit further north at Bilene which is nice because of the lagoon which makes swimming safer for...

Re: Mkambati to Port st Johns

Yes, the road is really quite nice but remember, heavy rain can change any gravel road from a breeze to a nightmare within hours. Always good to get local advice once you're there.

Re: Mkambati to Port st Johns

We did that route two years ago in July but started from east of the Mtentu River, not from Mkhambathi. The road from Holy Cross to Lusikisiki was fine. Gravel, many twists and turns but very scenic.

Re: kosi bay to Jeff's Tofo area

After crossing the bridge an alternative could be to head straight through the city centre and along the new coastal road past Costa do Sol. The road continues all the way to Marracuene where it...
  19. Re: Will Garmin 60Cx work with new T4A maps

I lost the keys to my old 2010 series maps and can't retrieve them anymore.

I had a similar problem when I moved from a PC to a Mac. I was able to retrieve the keys so I could unlock the maps on...

    Re: Namaqua National Park pub?

Try Die Kliphuis Kombuis in Kamieskroon #+27 (84) 601-0485‬. Quite a popular eatery, maybe theyll make a plan.
  21. Re: Garage door motor installation in Pretoria (Moot)

Cunningham Door Creations in Waltloo http://cdcdoors.co.za/ installed all the doors and motors in our complex and gave good back-up service whenever we needed them.
  22. MediaRelease: Re: Ramtsediso border post to Katse dam dirt road

If you PM me your email address Ill send you the GPS tracks. The new road was not on any map, I asked the local taxi drivers for directions and they were very helpful. Coming from Sehonghong I...
  23. MediaRelease: Re: Ramtsediso border post to Katse dam dirt road

I did both the new road and Matebeng pass in January. As said, the new road is easier but has some awesome scenery along the way. Matebeng, going east to west I found the going up to the top steep...

I bought new tyres two weeks ago. They have a logo on them stating Du Pont KEVLAR reinforced layer. This doesnt say where exactly that layer is, but I would assume its in the tread and not in the...
  29. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

  30. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

  32. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Agreed, Id definitely plan on an overnight somewhere and thanks for the recommendation. If theres fuel at Mabote I should manage without carrying cans.
  33. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Thanks. Yes, 600-800Km would be about the range of a tank on a reasonable road but if the road gets sandy Ill be pushing the limits. Id prefer not to carry jerry cans if I know I can top up...
  34. Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Good day. Driving a standard 3.2 Ranger, would I need to carry extra fuel on this route or is there anywhere on the route to re-fuel? If there is fuel, can I pay with Rand or credit card or is there...
