I’ve just bought a full set of shackles (1951 Series 1 88).
I’ll post some pics & dimensions tomorrow
Don’t try DIY u-bolts...... the threads are rolled (not cut with a die) and deform when tightened..... that’s why we don’t re-use them.
Rather buy new ones....
Used 2 of my jacks to lift & position a 12mtr container on the weekend....
[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] I’m already thinking about my breakdown crane...
Those pipes would work nicely on my 6,5 GMC diesel....
Busy working on customers Landys so play time is limited.
Playing with the outriggers.....not gonna have much space underneath so I’m gonna run the exhausts through the outriggers 604768
Sorry.... too far for me
Where are you based
That’s too much for an asthmatic 3.5 V8.......
Besides, that’s gonna cost $$$ - remember, I’m working with what’s available
Flat bread - 3 tablespoons plain yogurt, 3 tablespoons self raising flour, salt, pepper
Mix, flatten & dry fry in a MED pan.....
Where?
[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] I was waiting for you to see that bit.....
Original pic had a spare wheel on the bonnet ( wrong rim size & tread....)
I was just thinking “outta the box”, besides,...
I still have to make the bonnet so that’s still far away ..... but I have a plan [emoji41]

Busy positioning the firewall to check bonnet height..... carbs are gonna be a problem so it looks like I’ll have to go for the Weber 38 DGES conversion and hide it in the...
I’ve built 5 stills (thanks to Squirrel) got 2 more to do.....[emoji41][emoji41]
ET.... you saw what I was up to on your last “visit”
I normally take the valve cover off and check the pulley timing mark when I’m “tuning”
The factory timing mark is for optimal performance & economy...... you can get way more performance at the...
It is “out a bit” if you compare it to a timing light, but what guarantee do you have that the mass produced crank pulley on your motor is [emoji817]......
I’m not saying that a vacuum gauge is...
You basically connect a vacuum gauge to the manifold and advance the timing to get the maximum vacuum (21 - 22 inches) then you back off about 2 inches. Set your carb mixture and go for a run to...
Get a decent vacuum gauge and you can set your timing with it as well......old school mechanics don’t use timing lights.
6” ground clearance...... don’t think there gonna be many who get under there ( unless they become a speed bump [emoji23][emoji23])

I did mention that I had a 4L60.......just sitting on the shelf, waiting for a home (actually had a 4y connected to it at one stage [emoji23][emoji23])

Ran outta rivets- only bought 100....
One think I will say (without getting drawn into a debate) is that the early/first gen R380’s (1994 J suffix - skinny layshaft), quickly earned a reputation as being a weak box. Land Rover figured...
Dude..... that was back in 2013.... Ive gotten over the Lexus lump and moved on the the GMC 6.5 V8 diesel ( way more fun)
Why didn’t I use the R380....
Firstly, I’m a bit of a stingy git and try...
I’ve never liked the “rat” look..... it looks like a half job.

Proper rivets..... just not using them structurally
Got a visit from Johno today..... bugger made me work. Anyway, I now have a rolling chassis 600459600460
Old truck is to pump the brakes till they’re hard and jamb a piece of wood on the pedal & leave it for a day or two ......dunno why but it does work
