  1. Re: New Touareg. Endless problems and Terrible service

Thanks Stephan, and that was resolved very quickly and IMO, satisfactorily by VW. Later Amaroks haven't had this issue.
  2. Re: New Touareg. Endless problems and Terrible service

No, capitalism only works in perpetuity, if you have unlimited natural resources, to feed the need for continual growth.

It will come to a grinding halt if you run out of resources to consume....

I would frankly want to be able to completely remove the 3rd row?
  4. Re: New Touareg. Endless problems and Terrible service

Hey, I like capitalism. But it has some problems..
  5. Re: Discovery 2 V8 vs. TD5: The fuel consumption issue..

Freudian slip Fluffy? The breaking part? ;D

The obvious answer to all the OPs issues is a V8. Diesel. In a Cruiser.

    Re: Is this it?

That little Alpine window looks like an afterthought - like it was drawn in after the design was done. Sort of like they almost forgot about it, but remembered just in time..

    I kind of like the...
  7. Re: New Touareg. Endless problems and Terrible service

Off topic, but that right there, is the problem with capitalism. Everything needs to be measured by what it costs, not by whether it's actually the right and proper thing to do.

    Back on topic, I...

Re: Mercedes X-Class to be discontinued

Good riddance. I don't think there's any chance of it becoming a classic either, it would have needed to be a very good bakkie for that to happen. And IMO, it just isn't. So I think the resale is...

    Re: Softroader to Khadum possible?

I can imagine, and I'm pretty sure a Q7 would have been absolutely nowhere. A lot worse than either a NP300 or a Navara. Now, that sort of situation can put some serious strain on a friendship - I...

    Re: Softroader to Khadum possible?

I think this is wise. It's not only tyres and ground clearance. On many soft roaders, there is not a lot of protection for things like the radiator, and they often sit quite low and far forward. It's...

    Re: Road to Kgalagadi condition

You don't want to be going faster than about 80km/h, so at least 2 hours to Askham. The road is rough, but beautiful. And the Vanzylsrus hotel is an experience worth having. I really enjoyed the...

Re: Hella supernova 6 - Cape Town

More lumens doesn't automatically equal more distance.

Also check out HardKorr - new spotlight from Australia for a very good price. I have the 7" version, and the throw is 1 lux at over 700...

    Re: Wild camping Zambia

We have done it in 2 days, coming back from Lusaka but it will be 2 loooong days. Wild camping is not going to work there though - too many locals around.

Going up, I would try and get to Kasane...
  14. Re: Kgalagadi pictures thread, NO cat pics allowed!

    And a few more..

I must add, it is extremely dry so there is currently a lot less grass and hence less browsers. We saw very few Hartebeests. But due to the lack of grass, the badgers were a lot...
  15. Re: Kgalagadi pictures thread, NO cat pics allowed!

OK, I promised so here they are..

The warthogs are just to prove we did actually see them, north of Polentswa. They were too far for more than a reference photo..

Re: Okavango delta and your vehicle

We did a trip with a Botswana local who broke off, 5 of the 9 blades on his Cruiser's radiator fan - from hitting the water a bit fast. But it being a Cruiser, it just kept going and didn't even...
  18. Re: New Retro Style Caravans - Is there not a HUGE Market here??

Petri, go watch old episodes of Top Gear to get over your caravan thing.. ;D

Jokes aside, an Airstream is basically an artwork, a real thing of beauty with some practicality thrown into the mix....
  19. Re: New Retro Style Caravans - Is there not a HUGE Market here??

Petri, there's a HUGE difference between this and an old Gypsey. ;D

But in my opinion, no, there won't be a market for something like that. The VW never sold well. So not all the retro stuff works...

Re: Okavango delta and your vehicle

In a manual vehicle, it's also good practice to try not to change gears while in the water. So pick the right gear before you enter the water and stick to it. 2nd gear low usually works well.

Re: Okavango delta and your vehicle

That's a pretty standard sort of crossing around Mababe. I have done many of them in a (petrol, lifted, with bigger tyres but no snorkel) Fortuner without any issues.

Re: Okavango delta and your vehicle

If you take appropriate care, most modern vehicles can handle the Moremi area without any modifications. If you follow recent vehicle tracks, which are almost always visible, you should be fine. But,...
  23. Re: Kgalagadi pictures thread, NO cat pics allowed!

We're leaving on Sunday for 12 nights in the park. 5 at Nossob, 5 at Mata Mata and then 2 at TR on the way out. I can't wait. So, give me about 2 weeks and I promise I'll contribute some photo's from...

    Re: Interesting but useless?

Thinner air should mean less resistance - so it should simply take less energy to push the vehicle through the air at the same speed. The turbo will in theory compensate for the lack of oxygen in the...

Re: Hilux Legend 50 - With Pics

  27. Re: Land Cruiser 70/79 Double Cab Modifications Thread

Peter, if you're heavily loaded that is probably a bit low. Rather go up to 2.4 or 2.5 (or even more if you're really heavy) and see how the tyres look when the bakkie is loaded. If the bulge is the...

    Re: Is this it?

I think the idea is cool, but practically it must be terrible. There was a video with Anthony Joshua and this V8 Defender - he just couldn't fit in it. Now, he's 6'6" or something, so fair enough....

    Re: Kgalagadi trip:Nossob booking

This is the advice you should be following. The websites are very clear about the amount of people allowed on a stand. And this rule in fact applies to all Sanparks parks.

    I find it surprising...
