    Re: 2015 KB250 - Steering rack

Had my Astra's leaking power steering rack repaired by West Power Steering in Hercules, PTA West. The shaft in the rack was badly bent, so had to be replaced with a refurbed unit. Cost around R5000...
  2. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Shortest belt in the BMG catalogue is 370mm. Then using this online calculator http://www.calculatoredge.com/mech/vbelt%20length.htm I could play around with values until I could get to the desired...
  3. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Assuming one measures v-belts on the outside, I put masking tape around the belt I have and then cut and stretched out the tape. Exactly 75cm which matches a belt length in the BMG catalogue. So next...
  4. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Put the new pulleys on the saw to see what's what.
    1. With the smaller pulley on the saw shaft, I now have full range of motion again.
    2. Belt hung on. Sorry about the photo quality
    3. Motor...
  5. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Next on the to do list is to make a new motor bracket based on the new motor and pulleys and then take it from there.
  6. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

The saw comes with a stand, or stated otherwise, the stand splits in two parts. The top half has the table and houses the blade and motor stuff. The bottom is just a box.

    Initial plan was to build...
  7. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Life is too short to sukkel.

Managed to work some overtime for some extra cash to spend on my hobbies. First on the list was a set of proper pulleys and taper locks so I don't have to make dodgy...
  8. Re: Poly bushes supplier - Alfa Giulia Super 1.3 rolling (amateur) restoration

    Maybe try these guys

    http://www.sydsuspensionparts.co.za/

I bought a few bushes from them for my Isuzu and once while there they were working on a few older cars. Maybe they will be able to...
  9. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Yes, the saw has a keyway. The new motor has thread on the tip of the shaft.
  10. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

The saw is around 14.5mm, but I am guessing it will be some kind of imperial size close to that. I don't have a vernier to take an accurate measurement.
  11. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Thanks for the video. Will have a look.

Yes, the pulley might be too big, but that is all I have. The saw came without pulleys and the smallest that a place like Bearing Man can supply is 56mm...
  12. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Options for grub screws. I will only be getting M4 and M6 tap sets, so I will use either of those.
  13. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Also started to look at the motor wiring. At least at the moment it has a cord for testing, but will add a stop/start button at some point.

Two of the wires seem to have overheated at some point...
  14. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

With no pulley on the shaft and the saw cranked all the way to the top, it gives a cutting depth of 80mm. Unfortunately the pulley touches on the underside of the table, so with the saw lowered to...

  16. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Tiny bit of progress over the weekend.

To fix the pulleys I currently have to the shafts of the motor and saw, the plan was to drill a hole into the v-groove perpendicular to the shaft. Then I can...
  17. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

With the link here on the thread, I will definitely use it just to be sure
  18. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

I guess a Ryobi is still better than nothing. I was actually trying to save up to buy a new Ryobi, but every time I came even remotely close to having half the money something would happen that would...
  19. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Thanks. I would have figured out my mistake at some point...
  20. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Thanks. I realise the speed might be too low, but I will see what it does with the parts I have available. If I need to speed it up, I will put a slightly bigger pulley on the blade side.
  21. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Thanks for the suggestion. That is just around the corner from the office where I used to work (working from home currently) and I see there are two more bolt places in the area according to Maps.
  22. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

Thanks for the offer. I think the boss already replaced all the ones that were required, but will let you know if I get stuck.

Anyone know if a place like Boltfast will have imperial stuff as well?
  23. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

The pulleys I have currently are the same size. Haven't measured yet.

Thanks for the offer on the pulleys, might have to take you up on that. I will see how it goes if I drill these to add grub...
  24. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

So the to do list is as follows:

    - Make a plan to fix the pulleys I got to the shafts of the motor and saw
    - Modify or make a new motor bracket
    - Build a cutting fence and sled
    - Make a...
  25. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

I asked around and Let's Play on this forum was kind enough to give me an old pool pump motor. I tested the motor and it runs perfectly and very quiet. To say I am happy is an understatement.

    It...
  26. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

I thought that I will start with the motor. If I can get the motor to run, then I can start working on getting or fitting pulleys to get the blade to turn.

The motor seems to be the original....
  27. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

My current set of tools is very basic, but I get by even if it takes much longer to do certain jobs and the accuracy is not perfect.

I think in the end, if I get this table saw to work properly it...
  28. Re: Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

First step was collecting and getting it home.

A time and date was set and I grabbed a bunch of tie down straps and made the 50km trip to collect the saw. While there, my boss mentioned that there...
  29. Fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw

    Hi guys

Thought I will share my story of fixing up an old Walker Turner table saw.

    Some background:
My boss bought a drill press, but then ended up buying the table saw as well as some other...
  30. Tyre options for 27 inch bicycle wheels

    Hi guys

I have an old road bike that I want to fit a set of slightly wider tyres to. It is the old type road bikes with 27 x 1 1/4 tyres.

Yes, it might be better to replace with a mountain...

Re: KB 280 gearbox oil change

As an extra tip, remove the filler plug first before removing the drain. That way you know you can definitely refill it once drained.

I would also suggest BOT 402. Do not fill the box with normal...

    Re: CVT oil change??

I actually went through this process with my auto recently. Obviously the manual states to only use OEM fluid for the torque converter, but I thought there must surely be some generic oil that works....

    Re: CVT oil change??

Sometimes it is better just to trust the CVT oil/fluid as supplied by the dealership. You can get an oil that complies to the OEM spec, but I know of brands where a non OEM oil can cause damage even...
