  1. Re: Good Year Wranglers - I am more than a little worried....

Not yet. Waiting for stock to be delivered.
  2. Re: TD5 Engine Vibration at 2250 rpm: Anyone found the cure yet?

    Francois,

For the moment, I doubt it is that. The drone is not only sound, it gets transmitted along the exhaust system as well and with the middle box on my one that was an abortive...
  3. Re: TD5 Engine Vibration at 2250 rpm: Anyone found the cure yet?

    Auto...
  4. Re: TD5 Engine Vibration at 2250 rpm: Anyone found the cure yet?

Jong, jy sal versigting moet wees.

My hartjie is pikswart en ek vertroetel hom om so te bly.
  5. Re: TD5 Engine Vibration at 2250 rpm: Anyone found the cure yet?

That would be my guess as well.

Anything that has to dampen vibration, has to go first. No point in any evaluation before that.
  6. Re: TD5 Engine Vibration at 2250 rpm: Anyone found the cure yet?

I decided to replace that pulley in any case.

It can result in a fairly catastrophic failure due to age, and I certainly would not want that to happen in the middle of nowhere.
  7. Re: TD5 Engine Vibration at 2250 rpm: Anyone found the cure yet?

They do say the flexplate also develops cracks around the bolts.

The reality is that it may not be one part, but a combination of parts that goes which cause it.

So it may be the pulley AND the...
  8. Re: TD5 Engine Vibration at 2250 rpm: Anyone found the cure yet?

Engine mounts are brand new on mine. Thew other were really buggered. Off course that alone made one helluva difference. But it aint good enough. ;D

Have not checked the pulley yet, but that is...
  9. Re: TD5 Engine Vibration at 2250 rpm: Anyone found the cure yet?

    No.
  10. TD5 Engine Vibration at 2250 rpm: Anyone found the cure yet?

My Disco 2 TD5 has what I can describe as a "drone" noise which occurs in a narrow band between about 2000 and 2250rpm.

Above and below that, it is smooth, but it happens in all the gears and...
  11. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Uncle Fluffy?!?!? Did you actually get that figures from Google and did not care to double check it?

Lets put it quickly in perspective:

    0-100 km/h acceleration

    100 km/h = 27.8 m/s
  12. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Certainly not cheap. But depending on what they did, a similar once off project can get there in parts only.
  13. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

There you have it. It is very clear that all SLS functions are stopped under dynamic conditions.

Which is exactly what I am trying to tell you.
  14. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Jo. I hope I am not so bad that reincarnation leads me to this...
  15. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

    Just re-arrange the letters...
  16. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

    Absolutely. I fully agree.

As said. The idea was sparked by another night of bad sleep. ;D

There are other options and I am looking at that too.

Right now, I am very happy with the increased...
  17. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

So you reckon there might be hope for me?
  18. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

You are basically under the impression that SLS is performing dynamic functions - which it simply cannot do. Air is waaaaaay too slow for that.

The examples that you quoted from the D3 manual,...
  19. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

I honestly think that you are under the impression that SLS is a super quick acting all the time working kind of system.

That really is not the case.

All the things that are mentioned, are...
  20. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Help me if I am wrong. I think you are confusing SLS with active suspension. There is a huge difference.

Any system that needs to react on dynamic changes like for cornering, braking and...
  21. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Automatic Self leveling does not imply that it has to happen while the vehicle is moving.

That is not what self leveling does.

All that self leveling does, is to compensate for load and adjust...
  22. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Simple yes. Exactly what I said.

I will do no more than automating the manual valve a bit - and that manual valve will in any case be there.

Want to do self leveling? Cool. Hitch the trailer,...
  23. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Phew! I don't know what is wrong with me then. I find these things to be no more complex than a piece of pneumatic line.
  24. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Yes and what is the relevance in that? Just because you wanted the function, does not mean I need it too.

I do not disagree with you. I just can't understand why you make such a big deal...
  25. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Just for reference an extraction from the RAVE manual on the P38 EAS.

Regarding the comment by Fluffy, I find it quite amusing that they also see the need to use "complex" devices like non return...
  26. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Yes, and what makes this aspect unique to this scenario?
  27. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Everything in there applies and the assumption are valid.

I have deliberately chosen a comparison of air vs steel which can be significantly altered based on the choice of springs.

    If you know...
  28. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

That would depend a on the programming functions it offers.

This is the kind of thing that needs straight coding.
  29. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Cool. Will that be for all subjects?
  30. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

Thanks Francois. I will continue a bit then.

As pointed out, many mechanical systems are such that what happens on one end, effects the entire system.

(I find designing controller is this...
  31. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

    Sierrafery,

I figured what ticked me off about your post...

If anyone writes a never ending sentence like this with this sloppy punctuation, I find it really hard to take him serious.

    If you...
  32. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

And design experience in pneunatics, pneumatic control systems, medical gas and gaseous fire extinguishing systems.

As a result, I have many angels to look from at this problem. Air suspension is...
  33. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

There are rather important principles here that applies.

So lets leave it at that. I don't think you are willing to think about anything more than what is in your own head.

    I will not waste my...
  34. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

That is not the point of the example given. So should I jump to conclusions that you don't know the answer and hence divert attention from that by asking other questions?
  35. Re: I can't sleep so I thought: What about fitting RR P38 Air suspension in a D2?

That is not the point of the example.
