Re: Looking to make the move to a hilux

Yes, the Hilux indicates empty when there's about 15lt left in the tank. You get used to it.

It's actually a great decision by Toyota. A diesel engine REALLY hates to run out of fuel and this...

Re: Travelling from KZN to FS

    Correct.

We have no fuel available. All shops are closed too. The community is manning very big roadblocks at every entrance into town.

Re: Travelling from KZN to FS

N3 closed as far as Harrismith. He has very few options unless he takes the N2, but considering the situation in northern KZN, that's not a great idea at all.

    Re: 2020 2.4 GD6 fuel consumption & accessories

I track every fill on an app & I've found that the Hilux computer correlates very well with the app. Certainly the most accurate computer in any car I've owned before.

    Re: Acdc tig welder.

TIG, yes, with a big but.

A DC Inverter can be used for "scratch start" TIG which for hobby level mild steel will be fine, but it's a bit of a hack.

You won't have AC which rules out aluminium....

Half our population, sure. But compare the buying power of their population to ours. That's the thing about first world countries.

Re: Tracking device - which do you use?

I paid upfront for the install because it was way cheaper overall than paying it off.

Device has never worked. In a year, my vehicle has travelled 8000km according to them when it's actually done...

  18. It all starts with cardboard (DIY roofrack build)

I'm rather a DIY fan and so began the journey of building my own roofrack...

First things first, I needed a way to attach the rack and since I really don't like the generic roof tracks you can...

  28. Re: HILUX GD6 AUTO searching for gear after driving over a speedbump

Yeah, engine braking done wrong. Drives me nuts. 2 things:
    1. Only happens if you touch the brakes. If you're 100% against the engine and never touch the brakes, my Hilux doesn't do it.
    2. If you...

    So do I.

In all seriousness. My top 4:
    Brand with a reliable reputation.
Cost to own (buy, service, fuel, insure, repair)

  34. Re: HILUX GD6 AUTO searching for gear after driving over a speedbump

I find that mine will drop to 1st gear if I slow down to <20kph using the brake. That's when it's sitting in 1st when you accelerate after the bump and you feel like you should be in 2nd.

    If I...
