    Re: M-73 Compass

Those m73 are beautiful. We had a few in our Boy Scout troop when I was a kid. Really easy to take a bearing. I tried to buy one a few years ago, but people just look blankly at you. I have a...

The hippos at night are a bigger risk, but generally if you ask around, people know where they are. Keep a good eye out.

I think their are actually 2 St Lucia macro effects, both at about the same time period. The progressive draining of the Umfolosi flats for farming, and the increasing rural population density in the...

Re: If only they were sharp.

Our woodwork teacher taught us how to use a grindstone and whetstone to sharpen our plane blades and chisels.

It was a real skill, not to burn the edge of the steel on the wheel. In my later life...
  6. Re: Are the LC 70 series V8's really THAT problematic in Africa?

I loved my 4.2 D, but never in a hurry. They hate a hill or to overtake, but are excellent as a holiday chill vehicle. Just take things slow. Plus, north of border, if you're in a hurry, for sure you...

Re: Please help me fix this tractor.

Give the driver some earplugs/earmuffs. Permanent hearing damage will occur quite quickly. Iíve seen some tractors where the exhaust vents downwards, to reduce operator impacts and height

Re: New Engine: 90 Prado KZ-TE

I think itís better to rebuild your own engine with itís known issues, rather than start afresh with new, unknown issues. AMC head would be good, as well.

    Re: Strange squeak TDI300

Their are two noises from a worn tensioner on the TDi. One is a belt squeal and the other is when the belt is stretched and the tensioner is at its limit of travel. It then clatters against the limit...

I had similar sound on the TDi. It was the fanbelt tensioner. Try application of belt dressing on the grooves of belt

No, I think the story handed down got mixed up, and you were told a version. There were Catalina bases at St Lucia and Richards Bay, during the war, defending against submarines which were in the...

I was told by a LR workshop supervisor that the R380 box was so called for its ability to sustain 380nm torque. I think a good V8 could exceed that?

Re: New Guy - 76 SW

Series I Series 1 Full restoration (5 year plan)

    Looks awesome!

BTW, a tip from many years ago , bleeding my Series 2 brakes was to pick up the front wheels. Lift the front with a garage jack to help release the air in the master cylinder
  20. Defender Re: Defender 2.4 puma clutch pedal and alarm problems

I agree with Jelo here that unless you have had the clutch slipping, or resting your foot on the pedal, itís more likely air in the system. Try and vacuum bleed the fluid and replace with clean fluid...

Re: 2011 2.5SRX horrific fuel consumption

Based on the work done, I would look at 2 areas, rolling resistance and the fuel/air mixture. Having brakes slightly binding or a tight bearing can certainly push up consumption.

It actually will. It floods the vapour canister and stops it working so the O2 reading goes out of range and gives an error.

    2009 Clubcab 2.8 TDI 4x4 worth modding?
