  1. Re: Mana Pools & Tafika Trip Report - October 2018

I'm more than happy to report, that Zimparks have actually changed their covid-19 cancellation policy. Credits for pre-pandemic reservations will be respected through 2021, so provided that travels...
  2. Re: Mana Pools & Tafika Trip Report - October 2018

Another report of your very high standards, John. And excelent photography. Thank you!

We should be in Zimbabwe right now, Mana and Ghonarezou included. But covid-19 somehow didn't agree, so we...
  3. Re: Namibian Trip: Report 27th September 31st October 2019

John, both of those video clips are amazing. And I can relate to both of them quite easily.

The water monitor lizard that you filmed in KRL was the same one that visited us while we were camping...
  4. Re: Botswana Is The Best In Wildlife Conservation

It's not very clear, what their criteria really was in that ranking. If it really was the percentage of land that is set aside as some kind of protected area, then their numbers are really...

    Re: Nakatwa Camp Mudumu NP

This, no charge for camping and only paying park entrance fees for Mudumu, was certainly the case on both our visits - last one was less than a year ago. Camping is free.
  7. Re: OVERLAND REPORT: SUDAN via EAST AFRICA, 2015/6. SLOW DONKEY.

    Thanks a lot, Stan!

Your Slow Donkey trip report/blog was (and stil is) in fact a prime resource of reliable info for many of similar or shorter overlanding trip plannings. Many of us appreciate...

    Re: Linyanti camping

Linyanti is beautiful, but it is only to be there, relax, and enjoy the surroundings. In terms of game drives, there's not much to do, as there's only a few kilometers of tracks that you can drive...

We also overland quite extensively for the last 10 years, all over southern and eastern Africa, and as an overseas visitor (in rented vehicle), I can assure you that I've met approximately the same...

Re: Kgalagadi to Mabua road prep.

The easiest scapegoat to blame are probably overseas visitors in rented 4x4s. Yet, I've never seen a track, or even a whole park/reserve, where overseas visitors with rented vehicles would not be...

Some fantastic shots! You are rubbing salt into my wound of our planned trip to Zimbabwe this August. Haven't lost all hopes yet, but doesn't look too promising currently.

    Kip on rubbing it! ;)

    Re: Dec/January trip advise

There are good chances that most of the lodges/camps in and around Lower Zambezi NP will be closed around new year and most roads in the area impassable. I think I remember that Mvuu is opened aver...

  30. Re: TR Kenya Dec/Jan 20: of roaring rivers, a muddy Mara and 50 shades of green

Yes, we also simply used empty drinking water plastic bottles. Regarding additional mattresses - they are quite bulky, but you will probably manage to squeeze them in the trunk. But why...
  32. Re: TR Kenya Dec/Jan 20: of roaring rivers, a muddy Mara and 50 shades of green

True, RTK vehicles don't have built-in water tanks. End they don't provide any water containers either. Even when I specifically asked for one, they refused. Too health/highyenic risky, they said,...
