Re: Ridiculous maintenance cost of Freelander II

I arrived rather late on this thread.
Something went wrong, somewhere, somehow - the current discussion has nothing to do with the heading of the thread! ???

    Re: Lowering EGT’s

    I'm not so sure.
A "better" exhaust system will scavenge the exhaust gasses better, but I am not so sure that it would have much of an effect on the EGTs.
A wrong air-fuel ratio will cause high...

    Re: All-new Isuzu D-Max teased

It looks great. Any word on gearboxes?

Under the bonnet, the range-topping versions get a revised version of the 4JJ1 3-litre turbodiesel, which now produces 140kW and 450Nm, up from the current...

    Re: Lowering EGT’s

.... unless there is an evaporative spraying system installed.
Spraying eg water onto the intercooler will lower the OAT slightly.
  6. Discovery 1 Re: 1996 Discovery V8 starter/solenoid question (behavior and 'bypassing' the solonoi

This was a problem that often occurred in the old rear-engined VW Kombis.
The voltage drop from the ignition switch to the starter motor often prevented the bendix from kicking in (because of the...

Re: Retro style Jimny by Outclass

    Re: X-class: YESS!! Finally!!

    Reviving an old thread.

Yesterday I attended a meeting at Mercedes Benz HQ in East London.
I was picked up by another engineer who attended the same meeting, in a 250 X Class bakkie.

    I was...

Re: Mkambati to Port st Johns

Do a Google Earth trip and see for yourself.
The route from Mkambati to the R61 via Holy Cross is fine (as far as gravel roads go)

Re: Mkambati to Port st Johns

There are a few serious river gorges between those two - which don't have crossings, other than the inland routes eg R61

    Re: Treg Owners

I actually looked at this, and I think it can be done.

From the built-in pump the air goes to the reservoir, and from the reservoir back to the valve block.
My idea was to put a T in the pipe...

    Re: 2013 D4D Engine Bang

The pressure loss was between turbo and intercooler (outlet), while the sensor registers inlet pressure.

    Re: 2013 D4D Engine Bang

    Agreed.
Loss of power due to loose pipe would mean (instinctive) extra throttle to compensate, which will cause over-fuelling as well.

Of one thing we are sure - cracked piston means...

Re: Where do you have to stop for a "meal"

    That is very nice!

What about giving them each a number and the posters can then send you the GPS co-ords for the places?
The data can then be transformed into a waypoint or Google Earth file.

Re: Oh crap! Tube stuck in dipstick hole

It is resting harmlessly at the bottom of the sump.
The oil pickup can't pick it up.
If it finds its way into the crank goodies, it won't last long.
