Re: Solar blankets - anyone using them

And here I am, not as set in my ways and always open enough to be convinced. ;D

I get what you're saying, I just think I have achieved the same as you for a fraction of the price you paid. As long...

Re: Solar blankets - anyone using them

    Hahahahaha.

But this is kinda my point.

With a little bit of planning, (as with everything in life) you could get your setup (whatever this is) to perform just as well if not better than to...

    Not in my mind.

    Re: Lifetime of Victron batteries

Post 20. My point exactly. It still is only 110Ah capacity which is not enough for this setup.

Re: Solar blankets - anyone using them

    No offense taken. ;D

Horses for courses I suppose. For me, solar blankets or foldable panels are faaar more of an inconvenience as opposed to fixed panels.

    According to me

    Cons:

    - Always...

    Re: Lithium vs Lead Acid

You're installation is very very neat. But I swallow a little hard on this part. Maybe run that test for us again to make sure.

Even with the fridge outside with ambient temps around 10 degrees....

    Re: Lifetime of Victron batteries

A little of topic, but that's a very small bank for a 5Kva inverter.

I have 3Kva and my bank is double yours which is just within acceptable specs.

This is fine though, if you only do small...
  10. Re: Using solar panels in winter sunshine - winter camping

My 2x 85W hinged panels are permanently mounted (one of which is always exposed to the sun) and removable with a 15m extension cord close by.

I can remove them by undoing two wing nuts taking less...

    For exactly this reason.

Only for the super rich it seems.

Absolute madness to pay such prices.

Not ever touching a Ford. Just too many cases these days.

  14. Re: How are all you Vaalies who are off grid doing?

No idea why it only shows up to 29 March. ???

Just had a look now, and this is the case for every single month. Don't understand this. But still, March is the highest.
  15. Re: How are all you Vaalies who are off grid doing?

My best so far was March giving me a solar yield of 324.90Kwh

Thereafter the shade became a real issue.

Currently I have to be done with geyser warming, dishwasher duty and irrigation etc...
  16. Re: Solar charge controller connected whilst alternator charging

Scabs is happy to refund you if something pops/blows>:D

Seriously, I'm sure they'll both be fine and this will be excellent to know the results.
  17. Re: Solar charge controller connected whilst alternator charging

    I agree with Ian

Alternators put out 13,8-14.5V at the most. For this reason it will not work if the specific solar regulator was so designed.

It may however be that some regulators are...

I found myself at a loss as to what you're trying to say.

    Re: Victron Mppt

You need not worry about the amps. 15 is just the max that the unit can deliver under optimal circumstances. A load cannot draw more than what is available from the MPPT.

But what you put into the...

    Re: Avoiding solar power throwaway

I think what Richard means, is that when a large load is switched on, the MPPT takes a while to ramp up and provide the PV that is available to the batteries. This can take up to 15 seconds I've seen...

    Re: Avoiding solar power throwaway

    What TTT said.

Remember to distinguish between the charger (built in MPPT) and the inverter.

Although I don't know Solis, I can guarantee you the MPPT will have a maximum upper threshold for...

    Re: Victron Mppt

For the 100 | 20 model, you are limited to a max of 100V

Add your panels' respective volts together to see where you're at, but it will be nowhere near 100V, so you will be good there.

    The...

    Re: Victron Mppt

    Is this correct?

This implies the maximum volt it can take from your panels is 20V?

So your VOC is a little to close for comfort. Closed circuit voltage will be less, around 18-19V but this is...

The Smart Shunt from Victron has bluetooth, but obviously comes with no display screen.

So your phone becomes the display screen via the Victron app.

So yes, then it will work with any battery.
