I travelled that road end of November last year. It is tar but very potholed. You should be OK as long as you keep the speed down. Parts are better on the gravel verge.

Also give us an idea of what cables there are coming from it.

The photo is not very clear. Looks like it could be a DIY job. I would disconnect the main battery and then take the box off and see what is inside it.
