    Re: Land Cruiser 300 - 3.3L V6 diesel

Not sure the maintenance plan will come anywhere near the 200k to 400k difference ;D

    Re: Land Cruiser 300 - 3.3L V6 diesel

I think it has to do with demand... Southern Africans view cars as much more of a status symbol than, for example, Aussies, so Toyota knows that they can push the prices of anything with a Land...

Jip, very true. That's why I buy 7 year old cars - someone else pays the school fees if there are issues ;D

In all seriousness, I drove a Land Rover for 3 years and it's time for some boring...

    Re: Land Cruiser 300 - 3.3L V6 diesel

Agreed. As a Prado D4D owner, I am very happy that my car's engine is underpowered and hopefully more reliable than a V6 TD from a Land Rover or one of the Germans. Alxrow001 still made a good point...

    Re: Land Cruiser 300 - 3.3L V6 diesel

So you are disagreeing with the fact that the LC200 V8 is underpowered for its displacement when compared to rivals? I thought it was fairly clear that that is what Alxrow001 was saying in his last...

Indicated pricing in the UK is 45000 GBP, which is about the same as the new Defender. So yes, 1 bar plus for sure :(

Re: What are your non negotiables when buying a 4x4?

If you are buying new, then yes within a specific price class all cars will be more or less the same these days.

    VERY different if I compare a R500 000 Merc ML from say 2014 to a R500 000 VW T-Rok...

Re: Most "Comfortable" family road vehicle?

Very true - if we go away in my wife's platkar, things like the high chair etc just get left behind... We'll cope without it. If we go in the Prado, it still gets packed to the hilt for the same...

Well he already made the claim that a Fortuner has more space than a Prado. Turns out he was talking about a Fortuner with rear seats removed vs Prado with rear seats still installed ???;D

    Re: Land Cruiser 300 - 3.3L V6 diesel

It's not just about displaying status, etc. A 200 or 300 cruiser will be infinitely better "screwed together" than the bakkie based Fortuner. You can already feel that difference between a Prado and...

    Re: Overlanding in a Fortuner

Scratch that. Just watched the video again and he clearly says the Prado is bigger with 7 seats, but if you remove the Fortuner's 6th and 7th seat it is bigger (obviously).

    Re: Land Cruiser 300 - 3.3L V6 diesel

That probably boils down to the (lack of) strength of the Rand. A Prado is a R1m + vehicle here, whereas in Aus they start at R700k.

I just bought a second hand Prado and won't take it...

More space than Prado? I assume that's if you remove 6th and 7th seat, in which case you can do the same in the Prado. I don't think wither one is noticeably bigger than the other from what I have...

My 4x4 is my family car as well, so:

    Safety
    Comfort
    Low Range
    Reliability

A 5th would be fuel range (not too bothered about fuel economy, but want to be able to do at least 1000km on a...
