    Re: Suspension component Help

The use of that rod on a trailer leaf spring is what is called a "second year engineering students wet dream".

Re: Spare wheel braai grid.. Who uses it?

I use one, but not as a grid. Home-made, 12mm square bar, square shape with 4 legs, and I use it mostly for pots and kettles on the fire. Also sometimes as a braai stand. Never cleaned it, just burn...

Re: Fuel availability - Maun north

Sehitwa Shell has always been a hit and miss, and is still on maun's doorstep as to speak. Gumare had reliable fuel, but I do not know present conditions. Otherwise go fill up in Shakawe (only about...

    Defender Re: Correct Gearbox Oil

A 1992 V8 Defender should have come with the LT77S main gearbox, unless your vehicle was built in early 1991 before the name changed to "Defender". What does it say on the front just below the...

    Re: LC76 Rear axles break

Yes it does, it acts as a quite severe stress raiser/concentration in an area where the axle bending moment tensile stress is at its highest, and any imperfection in the weld further raise the...

    Re: LC76 Rear axles break

No, that was fatigue. A once of knock would cause the axle pipe to show more of a buckling collapse, with the break area flattening the pipe more. Agreed the last bit breaking was sudden, and perhaps...

    Re: LC76 Rear axles break

Yip, with the underslung leafs the spring saddle weld is a built-in weak point where fatigue can get its claws in. You can have as good a welding process as is possible, but unless you have nuclear...

    Re: LC76 Rear axles break

Spacers on the rear wheels? Increases the bending moment at that point in the axle.

Still a lot of energy, actually 540 000 Joule/km, or 540kJ/km. Now the interesting part is that an average beer (330ml lager) contains about 550kJ of energy. So the Tesla is running on a beer / km ;D
