    I did indeed manage to move it by sucking -some years ago!;D

    Did you fiddle with/replace either of the sensor switches/wires on the gearbox???? -if these are swapped it can cause.....anomalies!::)...

    I have fiddled with this system and the RFW/4x4 engagement/disengagement on a 2001 TDI model -I think it is the same arrangement across that range, and it looks the same.
