    Re: Botswana in December-booking required?

Eish, have been to Botswana before?

Are you aware that it might be very wet in December and that can complicate travel a lot?

You mention CKGR: so driving into the CKGR in the wet can be a...

    Re: Kgalagadi

The No entry sign at Rooiputs is still there. It just gets ignored by all and sundry.

And this is my biggest issue with Rooiputs and why we tend not camp there: rubberneckers.

    Re: Kgalagadi

This is very sad, but I guess how nature works. We saw a lot and I mean a lot of tortoises of various sizes in April. Maybe they were more noticeable due to lack of vegetation or they themselves...
  6. Re: Road Condition - N14 from Ventersdorp to Vryburg

There are some potholes around Ventersburg. The rest IIRC was fine, we traveled that way in April.

BUT, we found places where tyres have been burned on the road, some remnants where left and...

Indeed and in my opinion, the thread name must remain as is in honour of, and as a reminder for all of those humble beginnings.
  9. Re: Bots in a minivan... with 3 small kids?

Yes there is, but research that carefully as well :)
  10. Re: Bots in a minivan... with 3 small kids?

The internet is also wrong about Maun, it is high risk all year round. Plus unless you are in the tourist industry, there is very little work opportunities. A lot of people in Maun send their kids...

Ja nee wat, agreed. Just go for the Prado. Fortuner is not in the same class, not even the new Fortuner.
  12. Re: Bots in a minivan... with 3 small kids?

    Walter, you make a point.

From a permanent living in Botswana point of view and work, the options are Gabs, Francistown, maybe Mahalapye or Palapye. Not much going in Phikwe now I believe.

  13. Re: Bots in a minivan... with 3 small kids?

    I fully agree with Pat.

OP, maybe also research what is required to go live in Botswana;)::) You will need a residence permit to start with.

Re: The do's and dont's of sand driving

Yes that is the correct method. Practise a lot because it is crucial to get right and a LOT of people cannot do it or is too scared.

I can just add, that when turning the wheel sharply a small...

Re: Do you like the new Defender?

YES! I like it! Very much.

When the time comes for my next, and probably last new 4x4 in the next five years or so, it will come down to a new Defender or a Prado which will hopefully by then...

    Re: Grid Tied Solar

Dis slegs 220v wat in ons set up deur die paneel gaan. Daar is 'n relay wat blykbaar vashaak en groot geraas maak wanneer die battery vol gelaai is van 220v.

Al wat ek bedoel is dat ons reeds die...
