    As a D1 300 tdi owner this alternator charging issue is certainly on my list of things I need to understand.com

    So if the alternator stops charging - noticed by the other means like a volt meter...

    My 2c is that the connection from conrod to piston has let go. In my case also with a recon motor from that unmentionable crowd in PE it was 3 pistons that had this. Lucky I caught it in time...

    Would running a wire directly from the + battery terminal to the alternator exciter wire be a work around at all if one suspects the globe in the instrument binical is blown ?

    Unplugged the pipe going to boost valve / thingy
    new pipe with bolt in the end - blocking it off

    dont have small clamps available so thinish bloudraad will do for...

    bigger intercooler from ex member Baben on the forum and a turbo "upgrade" from stallion turbo's in pta - same housing just slightly tweaked vanes on the turbo wheels face...

    Look at the bottom of the radiator behind the fan shroud , around the alternator or the welsh plugs - three of them on that side
    look at back of motor - near firewall - another welsh plug ...

    Square hole for the spanner

    The handbrake cable could be covering it as well

    if you can check before you drive then rather do that
    Its a 2 minute exersize

    Park it on an upward slope and oil should run out as soon as you undo the plug

    If not, refill taking into account...

    That centre trf box doesnt like no oil and will come to a grinding halt fairly quickly

    I got gatvol of my kitchen packing so my december ckgr trip I packed by activity

    1 box for brekkie / coffee
    1 snacks
    1 dinner etc

    So although I now have 4 little things of salt in each box...
