    Re: Stripped gearbox filler plug

That trick of making a cut into the end of a bolt to make it behave like a tap is a lifesaver, it works on any bolt and especially handy when you have a bolt but not a tap for a particular size...

    R1100 for 20 orings??

Is that the VW price, I'm assuming they are high temp orings but otherwise nothing particularly fancy?

Skf, BMG not stock that size?
  4. Re: Thinking about Gen3 (3.2 DID) Lexus conversion

No that would be too easy, one must always choose the more difficult and manly option like replacing the whole engine if given the choice.

And if a full engine replacement is out of the budget...

Re: 2019 to get a Discovery 3 V8 se or not

If you are petrified of the potential maintenance bills because you won't be able to afford them then it's most definitely not the vehicle for you.

  6. Re: gearbox and diff oil change: 255 000 km service

Considering how the box is currently thinner oil would probably help from cold due to the lower viscosity but how are the shifts once the vehicle is at operating temps?

Some rather strange replies on this thread. I can only assume many of them are from people who are not craftsman and do not take pride in their work.

Discovery 3 Re: Transmission oil level? Dr tranny fix

When problematic an oil change at higher mileages on those particular auto boxes(ZF) normally doesn't help, will actually rather do the opposite and make it worse.

The op didn't initially mention coolant loss being the cause of the damage on the new engine hence my question.

Check the odometer vs GPS to see how far off it is with the new tyres and also it will take a few tanks of fuel before you have an accurate idea on how the tyres are affecting the fuel economy.
