  1. Re: West Coast info: The Road from Soebatsfontein to Hondeklipbay

I would ask Namaqua Park - they are driving in the area.
  2. Re: Kgalagadi pictures thread, NO cat pics allowed!

    Re: Howling Moon Wizz Tents

I have a Turbo Natural Instincts version.
Never used in wind but in a Gale you would probably
have to take it down. Great tent goes up in an instant.

Have never seen a Wizz so can’t comment on...

Re: House to run ob solar when sun shines

Maybe the situation has changed but when I researched solar a year or two ago I found there appeared to be a problem with spares/back-up and qualified technicians for repairs.

    I think Victron was...

I have yet to hear any Solis owner complain and the ones in use on the forum have given zero problems.

Well mine travels frequently on the Nossob roads which I think have the worst corrugations.

For replacement do you think I should look at High Cycle? Quick to recharge.

My LC one of the first in SA still going strong - but it is only used for camping trips. Charged by Ctek D250.
  16. Re: Tentco 40 Litre Extreme Ice Box Quick Review and Romer Comparison

    Thanks!

Solid ice is a good tip.

(Anyone remember the dry ice days?)
  17. Re: Tentco 40 Litre Extreme Ice Box Quick Review and Romer Comparison

"We kept ice for 4 days"

What sort of ice was this and how much
    did you use.

(I have the Tentco but have not yet really tested it).
    Thanks for your review!

  19. Re: Forget the rainy season, lets talk about the windy season.

We have experienced strong winds and dust storms in Kgalagadi in September but I think that is supposed to be their windy month.
I am sure May is a fair month wind wise but then it can be cold.
  20. Re: Forget the rainy season, lets talk about the windy season.

Namaqua Park - wind howls up to 64kmh.
I am not sure if there is any month which is wind free?
Such a pity it is a beautiful area for camping.

Re: House to run ob solar when sun shines

    Mine (new) 70W.
1 hour warm up on high recommended.
    Then switch to low setting.
  22. Re: Alternative to RTT, Ground tent, Camping set up?

Oz is excellent but I sold my 5 due to the length. If I recall I could not stand up in mine?

On reflection I think Peter's best solution is to convert his
    existing trailer.
  23. Re: Alternative to RTT, Ground tent, Camping set up?

See this Thread from a lady who wanted to buy mine.

Just seen that she ordered but the bag was badly damaged in delivery also guy ropes missing! Tent had been opened.

    Clearly not a good idea...
  24. Re: Alternative to RTT, Ground tent, Camping set up?

If I recall Stan Weakley had one before he switched to RTT's. You can check with him on suitability.

But overall you can't expect synthetic instant tents to compare with canvas.
    And instant...
  25. Re: Alternative to RTT, Ground tent, Camping set up?

I have not used it in heavy rain or gales - usually camping in dry areas - hate camping in the rain and choose my geographical location and timing carefully!;D

    Also would not recommend synthetics...

  27. Re: Alternative to RTT, Ground tent, Camping set up?

  28. Re: Alternative to RTT, Ground tent, Camping set up?

Peter on tents - I find a 2.5m so much easier to pitch alone than a 3m. Depends on your space requirements of course.

I have an instant (non-canvas) 2.5m which goes up in a few seconds and have...
  29. Re: Alternative to RTT, Ground tent, Camping set up?

I would not sell the reliable Suuz.

I am sure some bright engineers can
help with designing stretchers etc which won't
    break the bank.

I am still pitching tents and Gazebos on my own and it...

    Re: Cadac Safire Heater

I find that after a while they build-up. The advice is to open a window so you have a through

  32. Re: Not death wobble, but a wobble nevertheless

With mine the wobble was solved with decent wheel balancing and cleaning all wheel hub surfaces. With Jimny the two front wheels are the crucial part and those hubs must be really clean.
