    Re: Avoiding solar power throwaway

I switch on my pool pump through when batteries are full.
  2. Re: Who can cut a boot floorboard for tuner in Johannesburg/Pretoria

Jigsaw or router, plywood tends to chip the fibre on the top layer.

Lazer cutting will give you the cleanest finish.
  3. Re: Ford very finnicky over petrol - 2nd engine replacement imminent.

Those red deposits could also be manganese deposits from octane boosters in unlead fuel
  4. Re: Ford very finnicky over petrol - 2nd engine replacement imminent.

This is what a healthy plug on a new engine should look like.
  5. Re: Ford very finnicky over petrol - 2nd engine replacement imminent.

There seems to be a lot of deposits on them, Google what a healthy plug should look like.

  9. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

The only time I broke down and could not drive further was a condenser failure on a points and condenser system, then a power steering pump on a Disco 1 that seized a bearing and the pulley came of...
  10. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

At the moment I have more faith in my D4 with 200k km's doing a succesful overland trip than my 24 year old D1 with 300k km's behind it.
  11. Re: Mecer Inverter - 8 Batteries - Real World Figures

Dirk I think you are where I was a few years ago, trying to make a ups loadshedding solution into a solar electricity saving solution.

I ended up with enough solar and batteries to run...

Discovery 1 Re: Discovery 1 - Buying advice

That's the reason I feel a well looked after D1 with proper maintenance is worth at least R60k.

Add to that list brittle plastic fittings inside and under bonnet, like headlight mountings etc. If...

Grand Cherokee Re: Loud clanking soumd when car moves

Heat the nut with a proper heat gun or small butane flame, a lot of times they ease up and can be undone.

    Re: it's a write off

I'm sure if they were prepared to replace the trailing arm with a used item the quote would come in at a cost that they could repair. Speak to them.

In my opinion that is a rip-off price anyways.

    Re: D4 Reliability

At that distance mine (2010) required lower wishbone bushes.

    Replaced again at 180k km's.

Only repairs was a diesel filter housing and coolant reservoir due to faulty sensors.

    Suspect a...
  16. Re: The Inglorious Tshwane Metro Police Department

My youngest went to a school party with a punk theme, when I fetched him after 22h00 I got pulled of by police in an unmarked car, with the lad sitting next to me with his gelled up mohawk hair.

Defender Re: TFL: New Defender vs new Wrangler V8

Why they ordered the Defender without the rear E-diff if its going to do trails is plain stupid, would have sailed through that obstacle.
  19. Re: We need to define what exactly “camping” is.

Staying in a Kruger rondawel is more rustic than camping in a new modern caravan 😂

    Re: Disco 4 tyres

I fitted Hankook Dynapro after my last set of GY Duratracs. The improvement in ride quality is amazing. Have done Karoo gravel over December, a few trials afterwards, no chipping like GY did.

Re: How are all you Vaalies who are off grid doing?

A few days ago I had a all-time high of 6.7 kWh/kW installed, and my 5kW array pumped out just short of 7kW at times. My wife complained about the glare from the sun/clouds when leaving the house,...

Re: Disco 1 rear donut mod?

The older D1 V8 also had a UJ at the rear diff, circa 93 models. I have just replaced mine with a new rubber and bush, because of a vibration, but it made no difference. If I put the gearbox in...
  24. Re: Eskom's new proposal for homes with solar panels

Or you could look at it this way, you use their grid network as a battery. The network costs money to build and keep up, if you use it, pay for it. Else buy a battery to dump your excess into for...

  27. Re: Show us where you have towed your off road van, off road.

I went there because people said it can't be done ;D, but it took all day to get back up there, at times we had to unhook the trailer and drag it on its skud plate a few metres, reverse, hook up...

    Re: Toyota hot hatch back!!

Car performance stats is a very long way away from how well it drives.

Some of them is so clinical and sterile, you get the performance while it feel and sounds like you are in a theatre.
