    Re: Hifly Tyres

Some 12 years ago I had an Alfa GT with 45 profile tyres. Looked fantastic but I was a very good client of Magrim Repairs in Windhoek.
No low profile tyres for me since then. Looks great and I'm...

    Re: Wanted: Amarok V6 Extreme

There are manufacturer limitations, like the 3500 kg tow rating and then there is the South African Roads Traffic act. The Roads Traffic Act limits e.g. the speed you may travel at (your vehicle can...

    Re: Wanted: Amarok V6 Extreme

Do you want an Amarok Extreme or do you want a vehicle that can tow a 3 ton trailer legally?
The Amarok's empty weight is around 2000 kg, so it can't legally tow a trailer with a 3 ton GWM.

Re: Planes take strange routes ?

It was absolute correct, but then the 70s came along and RNAV routes, defined by fictional waypoints, not ground based ones, were introduced.

And what radiation interference are you talking about...

Re: Planes take strange routes ?

Routes that do not depend on ground based navigation facilities are called RNAV routes and have been in use for quite a few years already. RNAV doesn't depend on GPS.
    Routes and waypoints are...

Re: Planes take strange routes ?

I used to fly the route Windhoek - Frankfurt for Air Namibia.
    We did avoid Libyan airspace.
In general, one can not always fly in a straight line from point of departure to destination as one has...

Re: Clarifying Questions about an FJ Cruiser

The FJ Cruiser is based on the Toyota 4Runner, more than on the Prado 120, I believe.
Anyway, the 4Runner uses the same V6 engine and Aisin A750F automatic transmission. Even though there was a V8...

    Re: Where to buy OME

You can certainly order those OME springs from any fitment centre. Point is, that they will then order the springs from Megaworld.

    Re: Where to buy OME

Here in Namibia I had them fitted by a small fitment centre, springs & shocks. They would handle any warranty claims.
Many workshops do order & fit those suspensions or parts thereof.
    I'm not sure...

Re: New Navara manufactured in SA

What, is it the same 2.5 engine as in the old Navara, the previous model?
  14. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

I'm sure one can. But that's not the question.
And I didn't mean to start a private argument with you either.
  15. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

The OP's question was related to overlanding in particular, I think.
For a farmer in SA it makes lots of sense to drive the latest bakkie as long as the brand is well enough supported in the area....
  16. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

I think these days diesel and petrol engines last equally long before rebuilding. Patrol and LC petrol engine can go on and on without the need of rebuilding.
There was a period where diesel...
  17. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

I think at the moment we have a great choice of vehicles available for that purpose of overlanding.
You get those "in between" vehicles new, off the showroom floor, like the V6 or 1HZ 70 series...

Ronny Dahl from 4Wheeling Australia has explained it very nicely in one of his many videos: A softer tyre's flexibility allows it to deform when it hits an object. Therefore the force a very soft...

Affirm. Both, PCR & quick test accepted by Namibia.
  20. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

    I got the choice of a 1983 Landcruiser FJ60 and a 2012 FJ Cruiser.
I would choose the FJ Cruiser, because it is more recent, got "only" 180k km on it and most of its components are driving around in...

Re: Ford 3,2 manual vs auto

The manual 6 speed transmission is a Getrag (Ford) MT82, also found in the Mustang GT. There it has given some problems with gear levers getting stuck and bad grinding when shifting.

    Re: Towing in 4th

I guess that would be different for every gearbox. If you want to be safe, tow in direct gear.
If you do have some feel for driving, I would say that towing in an overdrive gear is fine as long as...

My average over the past 60k km is 7 km/l.
    I get around 7.5 km/l at an indicated 130 km/h which is 120 km/h GPS speed.
    At 120 km/h (indicated) I get just over 8 km/l.

    Re: Swambo`s New Platkar.

I always wonder what the V6 feels like with a manual transmission. They sold the FJ witha manual 6 speed box in the US.
Often when traveling gravel roads, I miss the manual transmission.

  33. Re: Dunlop Grandtrek AT3G or Pirelli Scorpion AT plus

Many SUVs have got their air intake inside the front...
  35. Re: Dunlop Grandtrek AT3G or Pirelli Scorpion AT plus

Do you plan on fitting those tyres specifically for the Namibia trip?
If so, don't bother. Just get yourself some half decent AT tyres which perform well on tar, don't increase the fuel consumption...
