It looks like a 45 Series, now depending on vin number, one can tell the vintage. From the picture it looks like there have been quite a few changes made so it is no longer stock. Are the front...
Was in Wuppertal last weekend, the town is still basically all closed, nothing operating.
If you go from North to South, the only slightly "interesting" part is the pass just out of Wuppertal. It...
I have a similar Fortuner, and similar experiences.
What is the biggest extra or replacement fuel tank one can fit on the Fortuner?
Thank you for your reply Olyfboer, but that road you refer to I have done a few times and know it quite well.
On Tracks4Africa, it shows a track from Wupperthal over the Tra-Tra mountain pass,...
Thinking of doing this, but can't seem to find much information about this. Has anyone here done this trail? I will be most grateful for any information about this route.
I agree, the dive cylinder works well, however I would not be keen on carrying a dive cylinder at 300bar for a day off 4x4 playing. Although it should not happen, do you know what destruction this...
Is this route still open? Anyone done it recently?
I really not sure but that looks like a Russian built Uaz
Tent to open up on drivers side, awning on passenger side.
Now all to decide is if I put tent in front or rear of roof rack
Thank you for your reply River Rat, I was looking Tentco Awning 2x2m

I have a Toyota Fortuner (last of the old shape) and have just fitted a roof rack with the intention of carrying my rooftop tent (old easyawning) and getting a awning. The bat wing type looks nice, I...
Sorry only saw this now
I did 3 crossings, remember I was 1 person in one vehicle, so did not take any chances. From W to E the first crossing was about 400mm the rest 2 - 3 inches deep.
I did this route for the first time last week, from west to east.
In my view low range or even 4x4 is not needed, although as said here before if you towing may come very handy once or twice.
...
Looks like a 4cyl Toyota diesel motor.
I am also on Wild Dogs, but saw it here. A few years ago (I think 2016) I planned a similar trip. I have ridden the south and east Namibia on other trips. Due to time I trailered the bikes to...
Today we did Welgelegen 4x4 Trail, never have I ever seen any trail/farm so bus. Everyone was having fun, and most were braaing afterwards. Does anyone know it you can legally do the old postal route?
Does anyone know if this route is open, and if we may (legally) drive it yet?
This whole situation is as clear as mud. No one really seems to know what is or is not allowed, and I am not only referring to trails.
obviously postponed or cancelled?
I towed a Suzuki (never actually weighed it, but estimated about 600Kg) all over S.A. never had a problem. At one stage I thought it might be better to use a trailer. The trailer (double wheel,...
Now if this type of build could be applies to a VW Bus, this would really interest me.
Ok depends on the cost.
Guys thank you for your replies, there is a lot of info here.
If I understand the recommendations correctly, if I change from 33" to 35"it should make a big change?
I forgot to mention I am running 33" already, I am starting to suspect the problem may actually be my diff ratio is too low. I do however like the low ratio off road. I still seam to have more than...
Ok anyone have one or know of one laying around? At prices like R35 000.00 I will not be changing anything.
Thank you HugoNotte, Jelo and Grips, I thought the H55F would work, but was unsure.
The way I understand (and I could be wrong) but 1st: 4.843 on the H55F is lower than 1st: 3.555 the H42, my 4...
I have an Toyota FJ45, and am thinking of fitting a 5 speed box in, mainly to drop the reves on tar. I normally try avoid tar, and then keep to about 80KM/h. I have 2 issues, at this speed it sounds...
and probably another 3 weeks of no one going camping
Doing the "Old Postal Route"
Hope to get some peace
I did camp there once, about 20 years ago. Then already overland trucks would pull in, and everything changes. The bathrooms were a mess, loud partying until late into the night.
No thank you, I...
lekhubu943: All my previous trips were only one night stops, now I am not as young as I was, and prefer a much slower pace. Shall rethink the pace, and maybe add more rest days. Thanks for your...
Thank you, shall defiantly look at Tsauchab River Lodge
Ok our trip has changed quite a bit.
We leave C.T. 7th May,
Day 1 White House Guest Farm between Grunau and Keetmanshoop.
Day 2 Day trip to Canyon Lodge and Fish River Canyon.
Day 3...
Good luck, I have a FJ45 with power steering, so it can be done.
Nice car you have, depending on condition, they grow on you.
Enjoy
Look for a dive chamber or recompression chamber. Often found at hospitals and or university's. I do know of a few in Cape Town
