Sounds like an issue with the timing belt. my 2c stay away.

what is the deck height on the pistons and the piston to bore clearance. also what hole head / thickness gasket did you put on? is all the deck heights the same on all 4?

Replace fuel lift pump in front at engine. bay o rings on pump unit faulty . cheaper to get a new one.

DO not put the tank back yet. use a product called Spanjaard Silicon paste and put it inside the connector. please NOTE not normal silicon. with this paste you will never have any...

Check in the front of your right rear tyre, on top of the chassis is is a wire harness running to the fuel tank for the lift pump in the tank. had this once on a customers vehicle where a stick...

Had a simmilar problem also on a 350 cobra the other day . Turned out to be old fuel in the tank. How old is the fuel in the tank? Not that it last long with a v8!!

did you check valve clearances and make sure the black wire on the back of the diesel pump is connected. if in doubt give me a call in the morning @ the office on 016 931 3156

Does your Fuse box sound like and old type writer at full speed? is so and you say you had some water in the fuse box, strip the fuse box completely and clean everything with a good contact cleaner....

That is called the fuel pressure regulator , which is part of the fuel block should you wish to buy from land rover. think the last price was R2600>:( but you can get the regulator loose...
