    I find that a simple normal household candle does wonders for dry-lubricating zips, drawers, glides,and slides, tools, screws, bolts, saw-tabletops, keys, etc. etc.8-)

    cheaper, less storage...

    Any melamine board is usually chipboard ( read WeetBix) based. You do get water-RESISTANT chip and MDF/Supawood ( usually green colour...

    Yes, one does get special 'bendyply' for thicker composite panels and tight radius bends - would be bent in several layers of 3-4mm and glued and clamped to a form mould.

    I'd say not-

    -unless you found exactly the right material that would not go brittle, was hard enough not to abrade too quickly, hold colour and finish, resistant to solvents/paints etc. etc..

    not crucial -it is an independent item -essentially flat piece which needs simple pattern/tabs cut -cutline can be anything up to.5mm wide

    As far as laser cutting goes, I am unsure about specific materials etc. that are possible to laser cut more efficiently/cheaply than others.

    I suspect this is indeed burnt, but in a 'charring' fashion.

    Burning of anything is really just oxidation -and it happens at differing rates.

    Newspaper 'browning' in the sun? -slow oxidation....
