Re: Getting trade for a Hilux?

My 2c worth... All the studies conducted by the press et. al. exclude one major factor that is very hard to pin down and that is the discount offered on the new deal. Some manufactures have on-going...

Re: Getting trade for a Hilux?

A few things to note, that may be of interest :-

Referring to the old Meads & McGrouther "book" (Many dealers now use a computerised "book" that does, in theory, use the same principles only real...
  3. Re: Service cost differences between service plan and private

At least dealers tell you what their hourly labour rate is upfront. My barber charges me R160 for a 5 minute job. Seriously I'm in the chair and out in about 5 mins. Not much hair left at my age....

Re: Definative SA bush camp list

    Good thinking Christoff.

My idea of a perfect bush camp is...... secluded enough not to hear your neighbours or see their lights at night.

I find night sounds and the night sky the main...
  5. Re: Service cost differences between service plan and private

Correct - dealers have various labour rates - Internal, the price they charge themselves e.g. servicing their own demo's etc. - very close to cost as it's pointless making a profit out of yourself....

Re: dealers or indy or DIY service?

Willem, please see my responses in blue above.

I get a fair amount of great advice from this forum.....when I ask, but mainly as a lurker. If I feel I can add value to a thread I'll comment as a...

Re: dealers or indy or DIY service?

A bit of a tricky question as franchised dealers do not normally retail used cars with that high a mileage. They normally dispose of such vehicles to the "trade" A dealer is in a position to push...

Re: dealers or indy or DIY service?

I used to own a franchise dealership and always advised family and friends to keep a FSH history intact, irrespective of brand.

As a dealer valueing a trade-in, a FSH with franchised dealers,...

Not sure how fuel pump systems work - is it possible for the jockey to put petrol in and the slip reflect diesel?

    Is it possible to drive 200 km's on a 50% petrol/diesel mix?

Re: Whats happening at Land Rover?

    Indeed...and not only Kuga's burn.

As a dealer for most of my working career, I've had a few "lemon" cars and "challenging" customers.
