    Re: Our first overlanding trip

Certainly! The best planning is not to plan too much. Just book and go! Will you be camping or stay in chalets/B&B's/hotels? Kgalagadi is awesome no matter where you stay. Southern Namibia must-do's...

Pajero proper! The Sport is great but the Pajero lwb is bigger and more comfortable.

    Voetspore in Suid-Afrika 2

I was surprised to find this on YouTube, I didn't even know they're doing a second season on SA until after it started airing! So far (it's up to episode 4) it's one of my favourites. Last night's...

    Re: Sodwana Bay Lodge

The death of another establishment, simple as that. Some would rather that everything goes to ruin than seeing others of a different demographic succeed.

  10. Re: I need to get from Bloem to Dullstroom advice please?

Then I'd leave on Saturday morning and take it easy. The alternative routes in Mpumalanga are a no-no; axle-breaking potholes, queues of mining trucks, taxis overtaking at impossible opportunities...
  11. Re: I need to get from Bloem to Dullstroom advice please?

What time do you need to be in Dullstroom on Saturday?
  12. Re: I need to get from Bloem to Dullstroom advice please?

I do it often. It all depends on whether you want to go to Pretoria or not. The quickest and easiest way is N1, N12, N4 to Belfast, then R540 to Dullstroom. Just keep your wits about you in southern...

Some more Old School Cool! Check how these Boertjies performed in the steamy jungles of Borneo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_mcCD7zxKM.

This is one of the nicest overlanding videos I've ever seen!

  17. Re: Is it possible to buy a usable 4x4 with a R40k budget?

Not for long-distance use, no. Been there, done that. Had the grease-stained T-shirt and months of woe.

  26. Re: Campsites & Road Conditions Somerset West to Crocodile Bridge

Sorry to say, but the N1 all the way to Polokwane and then the R71 via Tzaneen to Phalaborwa is the best. Alternatively, the N12 from Joburg then N4 to Malelane Gate, if your destination is Kruger.
  27. Re: Campsites & Road Conditions Somerset West to Crocodile Bridge

The N5 is lovely but those other roads are horribly potholed now. Dangerously so.

Perhaps a good 2nd hand Kuga, if they were happy with the Fiesta other than it's rough road ability? They are hot property now!

  31. Re: Little bugger tried to interrupt a conference call

Actually I'd say that's a Parabuthus capensis but as with all buthidae, avoid that stinger. See: http://www.biodiversityexplorer.info/arachnids/scorpions/buthidae/parabuthus_capensis.htm.

Re: Super select help (yes another)

You're right, the lights shouldn't flash continuously and should stay on re the drive mode selected. It happens when 4wd wasn't engaged for a long period of time. However, it can also be a solenoid,...

Re: 265/75/R16 on Pajero 3.2 DiD?

They won't rub on the bodywork, but they're a little wide for those rims. You can get Goodyear Wrangler 245/75R16's for good prices.

Re: Namibia's fairy circles mystery finally solved

Read the article and look at all the photos. It was observed over time that some dying, later dead euphorbias left fairy circles behind. Case closed.
