    Re: 4x4 registration

In South Africa, you will not be able to. Angola and Mozambique may be different, subject to the taxes etc.

    Re: 2800dt oil filter

Fram PH2992. You have the upside down filter. Remove it when the engine is cooled down. Less messy.
  3. Re: Quick "Split" CV Boots for 2001 Pajero Diesel 5-speed

If you are going to DIY, get the universal stretch boot. You get a special tool to put it on, or you can use a plastic cone to get the boots on. The great thing about them is that you can "double...

Looks like you had yourself a good jol, tyres look like they were a bit hard.
  5. Re: Timing chain change interval for 2014 pikup?

TCs don't often break. The tensioner is spring loaded and you can usually hear when it needs replacing. 140k it is still virtually new.

My dear old "Esel" has hit a big milestone, without too much trouble, batteries, Alternator, rear diff, wheel bearings, upper control arm bushes, tie rod ends, CV Boots, a pair of CVs, steering...
  9. Re: Sellers trying to duck out of obligations - advice please

Pretoria to George twice is 5000km, plus the 700km, close enough to 6000. You drove the car this distance knowing there was a fault.

    What vehicle is it?

    What Juddering?

    It is a bit vague.
  10. Re: Sellers trying to duck out of obligations - advice please

I don't understand. Handling niggle in the transmission? George is far from Cape Town? 6000Km? Think you can give some more detail, what was replaced?

    Re: Recovery boards from China

If you need those, your tyres are too hard. Those are for people who do not have a clue.

Get 2 pieces of old carpet, 3m long, 40cm wide, will work much better than those.

    Unless you must have...

Re: The most reliable brand of car is:

I have a bakkie with 497 000Km on, will probably get 75-80% of the price I paid for it.

Starts every morning, be it in the freezing cold of Sutherland or the temperate Cape Town. That is reliable.

    Re: Internal bearing failure

I thought much the same, but the question, is it just a case of poop happens, with the bearing failure, or possibly the bearing failed due to no lube?

    Internal bearing failure

This example is on a Toyota Hilux KZTE with 200 000 on the clock. I'm not specifically asking about Toyota, but rather about internal bearings that fail. If cambelt was changed at 90 and 180 000, and...

  29. Re: Clunking noise when front hubs are locked

Terminology used incorrectly can be confusing. Your bakkie has open diffs. Rear may have a difflock, which locks both wheels.

You have a transfer case which acts like a centre diff lock. splits...
  30. Re: Clunking noise when front hubs are locked

Think you forgot to add while 4x4 is engaged. You can happily drive with front hubs engaged on tar.

If you don't 4x4 a lot, it is advisable to engage the hubs to let it lubricate.

    I think you...
