Re: Australian killed by Elephant Kunene

That one is pushing it a bit, isn't it?
How can you put yourselves into the same sentence as Stan, or even into the same paragraph?

I've never seen Stan giving advise of the sorts you are...

Now as we don't have the "like" button anymore I was just short of saying the very same in above post.

In essence what it is and giving false lead to the unsuspecting visitors to this thread.

Re: Australian killed by Elephant Kunene

    Common man, live it up.

In this thread we are talking of camping in the Namibian riverbeds and one guy wants to brag how close he gets to ellies (not in one picture but in many).
    This means to...

Re: Australian killed by Elephant Kunene

Sorry we were talking of the Nam riverbeds and the vegetation is pretty similar.
If one mixes locations then it of course confuses the outcome.

Jan, why would you post a photo from Mana into a...

Re: Info on best route and stops

I would skip Mankwe all together and chose Mbudi and Khwai instead.
From Mankwe you have to drive into Moremi which is a shlep whereas from Mbudi and/or Khwai you sit where the animals are.

    Same...
  8. Re: My 98 Patrol 4500 GL - Cleanup Pics, Etc Etc

The fuel pump is an assembly with the float (for the gauge reading) and filter combined.
At Nissan they will set you back as much as R 2'000.00

But you can buy an aftermarket Bosch or VDO (Midas)...

Not sure if that camping picture replicates on the reply. Post #37 refers

But what sticks out here is that the camping spot has been chosen very poorly, it is right in the ellies browsing area...

Nothing wrong with the 4.5GL had mine since new more than 20 years ago.
Gone anywhere, towed offroad most of the time and done 350k km in harsh (Safari) conditions.

  15. Re: Kgalagadi - Bots to Sa Side Traveling

hollydog is correct on this one. Wilderness trail is minimum 2 vehicles 2 days (one compulsory overnight stay at Mosomane) and pre-booking.
Now if you decide to miss out the overnight stay the only...

Thanks Paul, interesting read and fantastic story telling from the part of the author.

    Re: Mabua Polenstwa road

It would definitely help to gain that extra clearance, however
    - it won't be the only issue as the track is worn out and bumpy and you cannot build up momentum without risking damage
    - tyre...
  18. Re: Checking interest - Would anyone camp here:

Definitely a good point in above post #8.

One more issue, it should not be too far off the direct route, (say max 5 kms) so not to affect travel distances too much.

I assume a water hole for...
  19. Re: Camping advice Mudumo NP and Nkasa Rupara NP(Mamili)

  20. Re: Is ek ge-scam deur Leisure & Travelling Booking Agents van Botswana?

Let me take this up and put it into perspective.
It is exactly contrary to that statement above.

    Re: KhoiSan (Bushman) visit

The catch is you need to understand the culture and to communicate with the people.

    Now, here is the solution.

Ghanzi Traiblazers is a private farm just about 12 km before you reach Ghanzi from...
  24. Re: Camping advice Mudumo NP and Nkasa Rupara NP(Mamili)

  25. Re: Any advice on Nam-Bots-Zim 40-day self-drive trip in May/June 2020

Okay, the conclusion is that you left it too late for the bookings in Botswana. One year in advance is the cut-off time to get any chance to book what you intend to.

However, it is not the final...
  26. Re: Driving through Botswana to Namibia at night, good idea?

I can only mirror the comments above without putting an extra insult.

But be aware NO DRIVING AT NIGHT IN BOTSWANA if you value your family.

So this is a clear "NO"
  27. Re: Cape Town to Victoria Falls - December

Agree with Mike on the Maun to Vic Falls route, no way you will make it via Savuti in convoy and towing in one day.

The better route from CPT to Botswana would be to use N12 from Three Sisters...

  29. Re: Ckgr park + camping fees-want to pay camping now rest later

    Just a poor management issue.
I would guess it is costly enough to abandon a booking, on the other hand I see plenty "trips for sale" on this forum and I am sure not every one has a taker.
    And...
  30. Re: Ckgr park + camping fees-want to pay camping now rest later

There is no advantage of paying it separately but you have to do the paperwork twice.

I would pay the lot upfront as the park fees usually are to smaller amount it wouldn't affect the pocket too...

  32. Re: Sand Ridge Rd vs Ngwezumba Rd & the Marsh Rd?

  33. Re: Sand Ridge Rd vs Ngwezumba Rd & the Marsh Rd?

Your blue marked track is the link via Nogatsaa where in olden days was a campsite.
These days it is only used by the Defense Force and some tour operators.

I did the start section from Ihaha...

Re: tal to me about Kleinzee

  35. Re: Anyone been stopped at a speed trap near Gobabis?
