Re: Gwm p series 4x4 LT

I did not expand on the problems, which are not specimen specific, rather in absolute quality.
(such as the way the thin sheetmetal is put together and corrosion treated).

    I agree that it is...

I never said I'm an expert on any Chinese vehicle.
My experience is limited to my BIL's vehicle.

Re: Gwm p series 4x4 LT

I thought I would sit on my hands, but....

    My bil drives a Gonow.

That bakkie convinced me to never consider a vehicle from China.

There could be good ones, but that one is rubbish.

Re: Why is the new Triton not more popular?

It is a pity that a product's popularity is determined not by the quality of the product, but by the efficiency (or lack thereof) of the dealer network.

    Re: head shaking ranger

    Something has play in it.
Pitman, steering rack, tie rod or ball jonts.
    Tyre side walls.
    Even (but unlikely) bearing play.
The wobbling makes worse all the time.

I had this on my Isuzu 280 DT DC.
Most pronounced when turning at 80-90 km/h.
Only went away after I changed tyres.

    Re: Painting chrome?

The best solution would have been to de-chrome the parts by electrolysis, but the size of the parts make that very difficult.

  12. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

I grew up with Penn reels, such as the 49, 49A and 500 Jigmaster.

I don't have any experience of their 'modern' reels, though.

Nobody mentioned them. Are they still competitive?

  16. Re: We need to define what exactly “camping” is.

    This.

I would include caravanning / camping trailers as well.

The amount of "roughing" it, has nothing to do with it.
Using a 2-man tent or a 20 ft caravan are both camping, IMHO.

Re: Why is the new Triton not more popular?

    That is the conundrum.
This thread indicates that the Triton is most probably the "best", except for dealer support and looks.

I understand the dealer part, but not the looks bit.

Re: Why is the new Triton not more popular?

    I will re-phrase it.

If looks are important, look at the...

Re: Why is the new Triton not more popular?

I find it "interesting" that people buy utility vehicles based on what they look like.

Platkarre, yes (maybe), but to base your choice of a bakkie on "looks" is a bit "metro" IMHO.

    PS, to me...
  21. Re: Which spinning reel for rock and surf angling?

    Real rock anglers use multiplyers.

I grew up with Penn reels, later supplemented them with Abu reels.

The latest Penn, Daiwa & Shimano reels are nice.

    Modern design and manufacturing...

Re: Small SUV/Softroader - What to buy?

As much as I like the Kuga (was only a passenger in one), it can barely be described as "small"? Same size I think as a Fortuner & Everest.

    Back to your report.

I fully agree with your opinion re Coffee Bay. The only place there which I visit, is the Coffee Bay Hotel, which is quite good.
The rest is "Mthatha by the Sea", IMHO.

  35. Re: Ordered license disc, got letter fron SANRAL for E-toll fees.

    They didn't, rightly or wrongly.

They opted for e-Tolls, not expecting the population not to pay.
