Re: Botswana not how it used to be..

We need to separate 2 different issues here.

First is the increase of visitor numbers (despite the high cost-low volume approach) and the type or quality of visitor. I am in favour of high cost...

Re: Route from Palapye to Maun

This route is absolutely fine. I would not go via Francistown.

Then of course you can enter Botswana via Lobatse and go up the west side via the Trans Kalahari highway, via Kang and Ghanzi. ...

Re: Road condition to punda maria

Agreed. We much prefer to enter and leave via Phalaborwa gate when camping in Shingwedzi. The endless villages, speed limits, pedestrians and clapped out vehicles via the Giyani route is just too...
  5. Re: Accommodation between Kang and Ngepi Camp

    Okay...

No matter where you camp, you are on someone's land. Please be mindful and respectful of that especially for a large group like yours. Like Pat, I am puzzled as to why you want to camp...

Re: Kruger self satering with small kids

Sorry for being a wet blanket but malaria is your biggest problem and should be your first concern. Your kids are very young. If you are not willing to give them prophylaxis, I would strongly...

    Re: Diesel in Bots

Never ever had dirty fuel in 23 years of living and travelling Botswana. Even at Rakops back when it was a dodgy little filling station with an eratic supply.

    Re: Kruger North

And who are you to decide? ::)::)

We all camp different. If their TV is not a nuisance, it has nothing to do with anybody.

Who knows, they might be more knowledgeable and bush savvy than...

    Re: Water Epupa falls

Where does the Kunene get fed from if not by water let out of the power station and rain in Angola?

We know there has been little rain in Angola and none recently. So if no water is let out from...
  11. Re: Long term camping in Kruger Park - how is it done?

Easy to change your booking while in the park. Your original booking does not get cancelled, only amended.

You don't even have to drive to another camp. While at Pretoriuskop go to reception and...

    Re: Erindi Campsite

We will not be too fussed about game drives, just want to chill in a nice campsite, braai Namibia skaap tjoppies, drink Tafels, kid can catch up on his life and we can dip in the pool before making...

    Re: Erindi Campsite

I have booked 2 nights in December. Really looking forward.

Just for interest sake, is there any wifi or mobile data connectivity at the campsite? By the time we get there my teenager will...
  16. Re: Water flowing into the parched Okavango Delta!

Great to see, but a few weeks late. In good rain years the flood arrive much earlier.

As Pat says, unlikely to reach Maun or even fill all the pools in the Delta itself. Rainfall in Angola was...
  17. Re: Toyota SA to drop Hilux's 2,8-litre turbodiesel into Land Cruiser Prado

  18. Re: Toyota SA to drop Hilux's 2,8-litre turbodiesel into Land Cruiser Prado

Daar was ook 'n 76 LC, my TX Prado en 'n Disco 4. Almal het gesleep.

Hoekom ek nie 'n GX sal koop nie:

    1. Sy verbruik was die swakste van...
  19. Re: Toyota SA to drop Hilux's 2,8-litre turbodiesel into Land Cruiser Prado

    Soos ek verstaan was...
  20. Re: Toyota SA to drop Hilux's 2,8-litre turbodiesel into Land Cruiser Prado

  21. Re: Toyota SA to drop Hilux's 2,8-litre turbodiesel into Land Cruiser Prado

Sal ook graag een wil he, ek beter begin spaar. Dalk moet ek my laaitie eerder pawn as varsity toe stuur >:D>:D:p:-X
  22. Re: Namibia trip planning, Dec 2019, the south west

Thanks Tony. I went to their website now and realized that I did look at them yesterday. Are they not right behind the filling station? How secure is it? Nowadays, close to civilization, I worry...
  23. Re: Namibia trip planning, Dec 2019, the south west

    Thanks Merwe.

We are looking for camping however. Just want secure place with decent ablutions for a quick stopover. Will be arriving late afternoon.

    Withuis google reviews seem good.
  24. Re: Namibia trip planning, Dec 2019, the south west

Another question: recommendations for a one night stop over close to Grunau.

I found the Withuis, Grunau chalets and Goibib moutain lodge.

    Which one to choose?
  25. Re: Namibia trip planning, Dec 2019, the south west

I would appreciate if you could check.:)

Maybe I can start moaning in central reservations ear's before hand ;)
  26. Re: Nata to Khama Rhino Sanctuary via Kubu in one day.

    Exactly.

I will rather pop into Nata bird sanctuary and drive to the pans and viewing tower than to do Kubu.
  27. Re: Namibia trip planning, Dec 2019, the south west

    Thanks Frans.

I did not realize that they allocate sites at Sesriem as well, but should have thought of that as they do that at Okaukeojo as well. I think you probably went during a quiet time,...
  28. Re: Namibia trip planning, Dec 2019, the south west

Thank you Frans, this is a great help.

No, my T4A maps says D831. It runs almost perfect north to south and ends in the C19 about 29 km from the Tsaris hoogte pass.

I want to chop off a...
  29. Re: Upington Camping - Security and Recommendations

By their crime and drug addiction, they are only shooting themselves in the foot. But they will not see it.

Crime = less visitors stopping to spend money = less jobs = more poverty = more crime....
  30. Re: Upington Camping - Security and Recommendations

    Yes, indeed.

They try your car doors at traffic lights and stop streets. If unlocked they grab what they can and run. Also caravan and trailer doors.
  31. Re: Trip Report: Southern Namibia at a leisurely pace.

  32. Re: Upington Camping - Security and Recommendations

What stopover would you suggest Paul?.:) Is Oranjerust safer?

Must say I was very nervous and VERY vigilant driving through Kuruman and Vryburg.

    Re: Kgalagadi

I mentioned the Engen and new shopping center in Upington;) The new center has Caltex.

Buy wood at either Askam filling station or at Kgalagadi lodge. We bought at both, KL's was better.
  35. Re: Namibia trip planning, Dec 2019, the south west

Any reviews on A Little Sossus Lodge?

We are going from Klein Aus Vista to Sesriem, for now I have 3 nights at Sesriem but starting to think it might be a night too much. I doubt if we will visit...
