  1. Re: Khaudum - Disgrace and Poachers Paradise!

Khaudum camp is excellent based on a visit in July 2019. Animals from lion to elephant very skittish and run off. Elephants at a waterhole run off far enough away until vehicles leave. Found an AK...
  2. Re: How do you spec the most offroad worthy New Defender?

Hi Edmundo - I had major problems with tyre failure (sidewall damage and stones between the tyre tread despite my best efforts at different tyre pressures eg higher pressures might help prevent side...
  3. Re: How do you spec the most offroad worthy New Defender?

Thanks Pieter that adds a new perspective for me to take into account when specifying the rims and taking account of tyre supplier size availability.
  4. Re: How do you spec the most offroad worthy New Defender?

I would also be keen on the PETROL P400 but have a concern with 19 inch rims upwards. I had endless problems in proper 4x4 with my V8 petrol D4 until I put on 18 inch rims which transformed the...

Re: Are Discovery 4's really that bad

I also have had the V8 petrol since 2011. Absolutely awesome. With 18 rims and larger tyres it is unstoppable. Thirsty on fuel but great power and comfort and not as expensive or finicky to maintain...

Hi All, thanks for the good advice. I have made a booking at Magotho for our entire stay now. I shall ask for site 5 because we are 4 vehicles and off road vans. Thanks again.

Re: Dijara Camp and Tshaa Camps in Khwai

Thanks for the feedback. If it is far from the Khwai area on dicy roads then it may be best just to base ourselves at Magotho for our 4 day stay albeit that there are no facilities whatsoever there.
  10. Re: Crossing Khwai River from North Gate to Savuti

Thanks for the feedback. So I gather that if we proceed from North Gate in the direction of Savuti (through Khwai trust area), shortly after leaving North Gate village we do a river crossing which I...
  11. Crossing Khwai River from North Gate to Savuti

    Hi,

When I was last in the Khwai/North Gate area some years ago the bridge over the river was not built. Is this still a river crossing or is the bridge now built?

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

Re: Dijara Camp and Tshaa Camps in Khwai

Thanks for the responses. Consistency seems to be a big issue with these community run camps! Based on the responses I am inclined to just go to Magotho for 4 nights and not split the time by staying...

A group of us are planning a trip in July/August 2019 which will include Khaudum in north-east Namibia. We will be towing off-road caravans (Imagine Comfortvans) and I have read that trailers...

Actually I note that Zanzibar might be closer rather than Platjan. Any reason not to go via Zanzibar?

  23. Re: Cooper AT3 LT vs BFG KO2 for Discovery 4 V8

Just checked the BFGoodrich.co.za website and find they do not offer the muds in 18" here. So that could end that option for me...I did note that Kinglsey Holgate in his Discovery 5 was using Cooper...
  24. Re: Cooper AT3 LT vs BFG KO2 for Discovery 4 V8

  25. Re: Cooper AT3 LT vs BFG KO2 for Discovery 4 V8

Thanks Sam16. Your extensive travels and good experience with BFG (presumably KO2's) is good to hear. I have not considered the muds based on a lot of tar road driving and a belief that they are less...
